Whenever I go home, these are the places (other than mom's house) I always go.

Lindy's Chili: a southside favorite
Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind: 30 plays in 60 minutes, with lots of audience interaction
Cocktails on the 95th floor: Forget the Hancock's observatory; here, you get the same view, only with cocktails and no admission fee.
Blue Man Group: it never gets old

Quick Tips:

The Reader: a free paper that comes out on Wednesdays (if I remember correctly) and always has tons of different event listings

Best Way To Get Around:

The EL, of course!

Pizzeria Uno

Restaurant

Always the best for pizza. Deep-dish pies can take 45 minutes to prepare, so call your order in ahead if you're in a hurry.

Ed Debevic's

Restaurant

The sassiest restaurant in the city. The food is great, the service is near-theatrical, and the atmosphere is pure fun. Ed's is a blast from the past.

TMLMTBGB is 30 plays in 60 minutes. New plays are added each week by the Neo-Futurists. If the show sells out (and it usually does), the crew orders out--pizza for the entire audience. The shows run on weekends only at 11pm, and I believe there's an early show on Sunday. Arrive early, as there will be a crowd. Sodas and home-baked treats are available inside, as is a lounge area for mingling before the show begins. This is a must-see.
