Head 15 miles south of Seaside on Hwy 101, and you will come to Oswald West State Park. Park on the left side of the highway and follow the trail under the bridge. Hike about one mile, and the trail will open to Short Sands beach. Short Sands is a local hangout with a nice sandy beach and is in a small cove that blocks the wind, making for nice, hot summer days. During the summer, you will probably find lots of beginner surfers, as it is a great place to learn, due to consistently good waves in the summer. Bring some hot dogs and a cooler, start a fire, and enjoy a nice day at a fairly secluded beach. Or stop at the Arch Cape Deli for a nice fresh sandwich on your way. Either way, enjoy the sun
