Overview

EMERALD BAY
We went in the wintertime, so we tried to ski all the resorts. Mount Rose was our favorite place. It had good snow and a Two for Tuesdays deal. During one weekend day we didn't ski. Instead, we took a walk down to Tahoe City to shop and walked down to the lake to check out how clear the water was. You should also drive to Emerald Bay for some great pictures.

Quick Tips:

A good thing to do if you’re skiing is to buy your lift tickets at the office for Northstar at Tahoe and Alpine Meadows. You don’t have to wait in line and you get a discount. You should also ask the desk what the good times for skiing are, like if you should do more skiing on the weekdays or weekend. We noticed that the weekends were packed, and we did more skiing on one weekday than if we had skied both weekend days.

If you need ski tuning or hot wax, I recommend Dave's Ski Shop in Kings Beach, just down the road from Edgelake. They seem very honest there!

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around is by a rental car. This way you can go and do what you want. This made it easy for us to do lots of things.

Best Things Nearby:
There were great ski resorts nearby, like Squaw Valley, Northstar at Tahoe, Mount Rose, and Alpine Meadows. It was also very close to a Safeway food store, a great Italian restaurant, and best of all, the lake!

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort was very close to Highway 267 from Reno and right on Highway 28. The staff was also very friendly. We had great views of the lake from our room.

Resort Experience:
The resort doesn't look like much from the highway because the units face the lake in a u-shape form. Parking is tough when there’s a lot of snow; it’s very tight. The office was kind of tough to see because of all the snow. You had to park and follow the plowed sidewalks.

The place was very nice - clean but too small for a two-bedroom. There were great views of the lake. The place only had one washer and two dryers in the laundry room, which was okay, if you did your wash at night. We didn't have a problem with that, but if you had more people in your room, it could be a problem.

We got a two-bedroom private unit with a full kitchen. Well, the most people you could fit in this two-bedroom was only about four. That’s if it was two couples. It would also be okay for three guys, one in each room and one on sofa, but it still would be crowded. I went with only one of my friends. If I would have brought my wife and child, it would have been crowded. It was prefect for just the two of us, so if you’re thinking about coming here and you want a lot of room for a two-bedroom, forget it, but the unit was very clean and was decorated nicely. The only thing that looked old was the tile in the bathrooms and kitchen. It also had great views out the living room window. Please check out the pictures I have of the room.

Restaurant

This is a place to go! The food is very good, and at a good price. This restaurant was right across the street from Edge Lake. This is a cozy place to eat. TRY IT!

SQUAW VALLEY
The snow wasn't that good in the morning—a bit icy—but as it got later in the day, it was shaping up pretty well. Their terrain park was nice! High camp is place to see, and taking the tram up there is cool! This place is awesome to ski if there is a lot of snow, and the village is also great. Also, when you buy a lift ticket, it’s good till 9pm (for night skiing).
