Adelaide from an Expert (well... not really...)

A January 2005 trip to Adelaide by Guess my name

Even though I only stayed in Adelaide for 4 nights, I actually gathered a lot of information on the so-called "City of Churches," yet I wouldn't call myself an expert.

Jetty rd Glenelg is always awash with sun-drenched Australians (well, you'd think so, wouldn't you) seeking relaxation and yummy ice cream. The Barossa Valley is great, but don't go if you don't want dirt blowing all over your car (those dirt paths drive me crazy!)

Quick Tips:

When I was in Adelaide, there was this big bike race in the Barossa Valley, so be careful you don't ride up their botties! Also, there is a tram going from the city to Glenelg and back again all day. Children are free, but a day pass is A.40 for an adult.

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around Glenelg is to walk since everything is in walking distance, but catch the City-Glenelg-City tram if you want to go to the city (of course) and from there, if you want to go somewhere in the city but are too lazy, you can catch a free bus. I don't know what they're called, but they're very colourful!

Hotel | "Ramada Oaks Plaza Pier"

My aunts had stayed here previously and really enjoyed themselves, so we thought we'd give it a try ourselves. The rooms are ENORMOUS - it makes the Hilton rooms look like a dollhouse and your average room features a kitchen complete with appliances and all, a really cool desk, a daybed for watching the equally enormous TV, and of course, a separate bedroom leading into an en-suite bathroom that is about the same size. The hotel features a lap pool, a sauna (or steam room), a gymnasium for keeping off the kilos, a few cafés and restaurants, and a choice of a park- or beach-view room.

The Ramada is set really close to the beach, so you can pop down in your togs and have a splash-a-rooni without having to call a cab. Now that's what I’d call swiffy! The sunset over the beach was beautiful, as we could see it directly in front of us in our beach-view room. To finish on a positive note (or a negative one if you want to get to sleep), there is also a nightclub, but if you like getting out into the sunshine, Jetty Rd is within walking distance and has really good pizza! Just make sure you ask for a room farther away from the nightclub if you want a good night's sleep!
