It was a basic hotel room--nothing spectacular. There was a nice indoor pool that opens up onto the lobby. The location is excellent for exploring the area, since it is near downtown and Opryland.

This is just odd. You're in the middle of a large urban park, and sitting on top of a hill is the Parthenon! I expected it to be larger. Having spent a lot of time in D.C., the size wasn't all that impressive. However, it was something to look at and made a nice place to unwind from the more touristy parts of town.

Fort Nashborough

Attraction

At the downtown riverfront, directly across from the stadium, is Fort Nashborough. This is a free park that has a recreation of the first fort, which later became Nashville. A few of the buildings are open, and there are various interpretive signs. It's an interesting juxtaposition to the hustle and bustle of the bars and more well-known tourist attractions. Just be wary of all the homeless.

Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center

Attraction | "Opryland Hotel"

While we didn't stay here, this is an attraction in itself. From the outside, it looks fairly bland, and the only tell-tale sign of something on the inside are the glass windows protruding from the top. When you get there, avoid the pay parking. Go to the Opry Mills parking lot, and you will find a short footpath leading to the hotel. Once inside, you are transported to another world. It is focused around a series of lakes and waterfalls. These aren't some little fountains that you find in an upscale hotel; these are full-blown lakes and rivers that have boats on them. Nestled on the lake's "shore" are shops and restaurants that take you to the bayou or New Orleans. We easily spent an hour just poking...Read More

This is not at all what I expected to find in a Southern city. Walking down Broadway from the convention center to the Riverfront was like stepping out of the South and into Texas. Everywhere were people in cowboy boots and live country and western music of all types coming from the bars (and this was in the middle of the day!). The combination of neon lights, music, food, and booze can be intoxicating (and that's without drinking). So we stopped for a while at a barbeque joint to soak it all in. Sure, we were tourists, but just for today we could be talent scouts looking for the next big thing.
