Escape to Orlando, Florida!

A September 2004 trip to Orlando by Spaza

Arriving to the beautiful 33° C warmth of the Sunshine State, our bones finally thawed out after having lived in the UK for 1 year! Even Hurricane Jean could not dull the relaxed, yet active, spirit of this part of the world!

An absolute must is to go to Arabian Nights Dinner and Show! Especially if you love horses! It is a stunt-riding acrobatic show with a not too romantic story line. There was a great meal, although watching the show with your mouth hanging open in wonder and awe tends to make your food go cold, so remember to keep eating and watching at the same time! Of course, must-go’s are all the theme parks, although don't get too excited and hyped up like we did, as they are great, but if you expect too much, you may be a little disappointed! We wished we had waited until we had a family as it would have been much more fun with children! We loved Epcot at Disney the best just because of the cultural aspect of walking through all the different countries sections! Made us keep thinking of where we wanted to go to next!

Quick Tips:

You can get discount coupons everywhere for everything! Make sure you hunt around a little before you buy tickets, as everyone has a different price, especially for theme park ticket packages.

Best Way To Get Around:

Don't rely on public transport, as we couldn't find any reliable modes of transportation. We hired a convertible car! It made the trip a bit more fun, and getting to all the attractions was a breeze once we found out that the car had a north/south compass on it! Maps are a bit confusing, and the roads go around in lots of circles! Most resorts do have a special bus service to take guests to and from the main attractions as another option, and often it is very cheap! Taxis are much too expensive!
Best Things Nearby:
Arabian Nights Dinner & Show; Walt Disney World; and the supermarket, which was just a 5-minute walk away.

Best Things About the Resort:
The quality of furnishings and the pool and bar area were the best things! Plus, it has its own lake for water sports! And the RCI Sales Rep Teams were good, too.

Resort Experience:
This was a beautiful accommodation. We were surprised and delighted to arrive to a very spacious one-bedroom condo. Everything was immaculate and clean, and we even received a free gift of a Minnie Mouse teddy waiting on the king-size bed! The staff was really helpful and informative about all the attractions and best deals to get the most out of our holiday. There are about five pools around the resort, but the main one is very beautiful, with Kokomo's Bar for refreshing drinks after fun but draining days at theme parks! This is an excellent family resort! There are lots of activities for kids and the adults who want to be kids again!

Attraction

Arabian Nights was great! There was food and a show!

Food consisted of a three-course meal: Salad, choice of main, and then you get to eat the princess's wedding cake from the show! Remember to keep eating while you watch the show because the show is so exciting that your food might go cold as you sit there with your mouth open while watching the daredevil stunts on horseback! It’s great if you love horses, and don't forget to go for the pre-meet to see the cast and horses before the show. It costs an extra $10 approximately per person, but it is worth it, as you get to meet all the horses and cast close-up and can ask questions and take great photos.

If you are over in America while a hurricane is passing over, remember to fill your bathtub with water (so you have water to flush the loo with when the water goes off). Buy candles matches and enough food and water for at least 24 hours!

We were in Orlando for Hurricane Jean, and the power and water went off for 24 hours at our resort, and all the shops and supermarkets closed early, so we had limited food. There is a curfew when there is a hurricane, so think ahead about what you will need, especially if you have a family. We were lucky, as the resort only received minimal damage. All the theme parks and attractions stayed open until the last minute and opened again the day after, so don't worry about it ruining your plans too much unless it is a really big one!
