A January 2003 trip to Mammoth by ZiGBiGDoG

This is the best winter getaway spot I have ever been to. Seeing as I live in the Midwest, I see plenty of snow, but not like that! This is a place anyone can enjoy!

Shilo Inn
The Shilo Inn is clean, comfortable, affordable, and has a great location. With an indoor pool and hot tub, it is a great place to relax and soothe sore muscles after a long day of snowboarding or skiing. Within driving distance from everywhere in Mammoth Lakes, it has a great location, toward the outer part of town but still in the mix of things. Underground parking is also a plus during the snow season. It is not much fun to remove 2 feet of snow from your car when you wake up in the morning. Each room is a suite with a fridge, microwave, and a wet bar, making it perfect for entertaining.

Mammoth Ski Area
Mammoth Mountain is the top ski area and resort in California, and one of the top in the country--and I can see why. They have recently expanded a gondola that makes its way to the main ski village, which is on the other side of the mountain from the main lodge. New lodging, shops, and attractions were in construction during my visit but are up and running now. The views are beautiful, the air is thin, and the snow is in mass amounts!!! No matter what your skill level may be, Mammoth has a little of everything for everybody!!
