Best Things Nearby:
Camelback Mountain, Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall, "Historic" Scottsdale

Best Things About the Resort:
Immaculately maintained. Every amenity you could want.

Resort Experience:
We often have concerns about "older" resorts. Not so here. Although Camelback Resort in Scottsdale, AZ, was built in the 1980s and is not particularly large, it is 11 acres of pure Gold Crown.

Our two-bedroom unit was immaculate. The living room featured a wood-burning fireplace and had furnishings done in a beautiful Southwestern style. The living room opened to a large, private, walled-in patio that was almost 300 square feet in size. From our living room, with binoculars, we could see climbers hiking the trails to the top of Camelback Mountain. The master bedroom featured a queen bed and a desk, and the master bath had a double sink, whirlpool tub, and walk-in shower. The second bedroom had two twin beds. Besides having a washer/dryer in the unit, the resort offered a complimentary mid-week housekeeping cleaning and towel exchange

The units are all non-smoking, and no pets are allowed. If you would like a daily paper delivered to your room, you pay for the paper, and delivery is free. Also, be aware that if you are going to be making local calls, they are 50 cents each.

The grounds are beautiful. The lawns were perfectly manicured, and we didn’t see any litter at all. The resort contained virtually every amenity except a golf course (which would have been a little hard to fit on 11 acres). There are two walking trails, a pool, fitness room, three tennis courts, a beautiful putting green, and a 9-hole miniature golf course. In addition, the resort had a "Cactus Garden", volleyball court, children’s play area, croquet court, horseshoe pits, picnic tables, charcoal grills, and a reasonably priced restaurant. If you are a golfer, the concierge will be glad to arrange discounts for you at a number of local courses nearby.

Every Monday, at a complimentary breakfast, the resort concierge outlined the week’s events, which included many of the usual activities (crafts, massage services, guided walks, and a ping-pong tournament) and at least one activity for the adventure-prone (a hike up Camelback Mountain). Outside vendors were on hand (hot-air balloon ride, desert jeep tours, horseback tours, and a city bus tour) and gave presentations for their reasonably priced services, which could be scheduled through the concierge.

For shoppers, the resort is less than 5 minutes by car from Scottsdale’s huge indoor Fashion Square Mall and from the shops of "old historic Scottsdale".

This resort is truly a "gem". We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and you will too.
