Golfing if you're interested. The beach. Tennis. Fishing. Other water sports - boating, kayaks, jet skis, etc. Hilton Head is really for people who want to get outside to relax or to be active. It is a great year-round place, as it normally doesn't get too cold in the winter. That said, when we arrived on Christmas Day, it was around 39 degrees F, but it gradually warmed up and by New Year's Eve it was in the 70s and we were paddling around in kayaks. Quick Tips: If you haven't been to Hilton Head before, I would recommend the "Hospitality Guide" from the Hilton Head Area Hospitality Association. It is full of facts and phone numbers regarding the various activities ...Read More

Best Things Nearby:The best thing nearby is obviously the beach, which is two blocks away and best reached by bicycle. Between the resort and the beach is Coligny Plaza, which has a wide assortment of shops, including a movie theater, Piggly Wiggly supermarket, an internet cafe, and several souvenir stores and places to eat.Best Things About the Resort:The resort is centrally located and has convenient access to the beach as well as activities at Sea Pines and other parts of Hilton Head. On-site amenities include three pools and a hot tub, and the units are large and in excellent condtion.Resort Experience:Waterside is a place we would stay at again. It is ...Read More

Antonio's Italian Cuisine

Restaurant | "Antonio's"

Great food and very good service. We picked this restaurant from the menu and descriptions in the resort booklets we received at check-in. Everything matched our expectations. Go to Antonio's if you want a special meal and aren't worried by what it will cost. Most entrees were $20-$25, comparable to what we would pay at a similar restaurant in the DC area. We didn't worry about reservations, as we arrived just after opening at 5pm and it was the quiet season, but I can imagine needing to make a reservation in the summer. Our son enjoyed the Lasagne, while we had crespelle and mussels followed by the veal piccata and the seafood special on linguine. For dessert, the chocol...Read More

We arrived in Savannah in the morning on Christmas Day and drove into town to find a place for lunch. We stumbled onto the Sakura and had a great meal of sushi and hot Japanese food at very reasonable prices.

We visited Hilton Head for Christmas, so it was winter and therefore too cold to go swimming or various other water activities. Even though your choices were limited, there was plenty to do. We rented bikes, and since our hotel was near the beach, we rode there most of the days we had the bikes. It was lots of fun chasing the seagulls around, and skidding through the sand at high speeds. We saw lots of other people having fun also. People went fishing, flying kites in the high winds, collected shells, and there were a lot of really neat sandcastles (view pics). The beaches were also very clean. We saw no trash lying around, and the water was fairly clean too. The sand is hard-packed near the wa...Read More

Lawton Stables provides riding lessons and train rides at their Sea Pines location. The trail rides go several times a day and last for about two hours all up. Very little experience is required as the horses follow one another and only walk. There are generally about 15-20 in a group we were told. The trail ride takes you through the forest at Sea Pines, around a lake and eventually back to the stables. It was $50.00 per head, the horses were in good condition and the staff seemed very competent. Some points to note: There is a $5/day fee to enter Sea Pines if you are not staying there. Lawton's accepts credit cards for a deposit when booking, but only take cash or checks for paymen...Read More

We took the 2-hour tour with Outside Hilton Head. This was more expensive than renting the kayaks on our own, but since we hadn't been to the area before, we thought a tour would be a useful. In retrospect, if you are experienced kayakers, you may find it a better value to rent the kayaks and go out on your own. We couldn't have wished for a better day: no wind, bright sunshine, and about 70°F. The marina made it easy to get in and out of the water, and it was easy paddling suitable for all ages and experience levels. You would probably want a bottle of water. We saw a lot of birdlife, including three types of herons and a large group of penguins, and our guide was full of informatio...Read More
