Another beautiful night sky

I have lived in this tiny town nearly all of my life and the clean clear water and plentiful wooded hills make it a great place to spend a weekend or a lifetime.

At one time T-shirts were sold that said "WHEREINTHEHELLISEMPORIUMPA" and those tacky shirts really said a lot about our town. Down to earth people, working hard without worrying about making an impression on the world as long as we upheld our standards and morals in the confines of our own little spot on the map...and a very small spot at that. The entire county (Cameron) that Emporium lies in has a population of less than 6,000 people.

So WHERETHEHELLISEMPORIUMPA? Emporium is located in the north central portion of Cameron County. Cameron County is in the north central portion of Pennsylvania.

Surrounded by tree-covered hills, Cameron County has been named Tree City USA for many years. Those hills are full of deer, elk, turkey, fox, and bear, to name a few. With four seasons each offering a variety of scenic car trips and hikes thought the woods--golden red colors of fall, the lush thick greens of spring and summer, and the serene white winter snow that blankets the forests.

Visit our "little museum", state parks, and forests for a vacation with nature that is sure to relax you.

If you like the lights and glitter (along with the high crime rate) of the city, this isn't the place for you. Click here for more information:

Quick Tips:

Visit our local restaurants and shops for great bargains every day.

We don't have a Walmart...but our quaint shops offer a personal touch and have many unique items.

Best Way To Get Around:

Bring your car--we have no taxi!

Many campgrounds are big fields where masses of campers and tents are crammed together. Sizerville is not one of those. This camping area is nestled in the shade of the thick woods.

The camping lots are large and somewhat private. There are a few that you need to walk into, so they are strictly for tents. Those are my favorites of the camping locations. Though they are a further walk to the restroom and shower, they are nestled beside a small steam where the kids can catch crawfish and wade in the cool water.

This is a nice, peaceful camping area that offers picnic tables, hiking trails, an outdoor pool, and lots of room for biking.

Climax Hollow

There are several dynamite works that are long gone, but if you know where to look, you can easily find where the factories once "boomed".

Not much of anything remains in any of them--just bits of foundation and small sections of the concrete buildings. Nonetheless, it is very interesting to see and will offer a beautiful hike through scenic Cameron County.

Attraction

If you think that the building is unique, wait till you see what's inside.

In 1931, the frugal school board members of Lumber Township purchased this prefabricated two-room school house for a mere $3,600. After more than 30 years of use as a school, it was deserted because of the consolidation of the schools. The building was donated to the Cameron County Historical Society, which has maintained the building since then. This may be one of the last surviving Sears Simplex sectional two-room school house left - IN THE WORLD! In today's society, it is not unusual to spend millions of dollars on a new building that wouldn't likely be around as long as this little treasure. In 1971, the little museum opened the doors of the building to the public as The Little Museum. In 1976, an addition was added to display military and personal items from General Joseph McNarney, a native of Cameron County who was a four-star general in the Air Force during WW II.

The museum contains historical photos, furnishings, tools, kitchen items, and more. The volunteer guides are happy to answer any question that you may have, pull a genealogy surname file, or offer a brief history lesson. Because of the large quantity of items in the museum and the changes in the displayed items, going to the museum once will not be enough. I have been there a dozen times, and every time that I go, I see something that I had never seem before. This little building is packed FULL of history.
