The Ocean in the Morning
I have been vacationing at Wildwood for many, many summers since I was a child, and I have to say that Wildwood is my family's favorite vacation spot.

Quick Tips:

Get a hotel on the boardwalk, if you can afford it--seeing the morning sun coming over the ocean is so relaxing. A centrally located hotel makes getting to the ocean and walking on the boardwalk easy, and you can walk everywhere you want to go.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walk, but take some comfortable shoes!
Newport room

The view from the room was great--oceanfront!

The rooms were very inexpensive, though the motel needed some TLC. The white walls were bright and clean and the carpet was more of a low pile but was fairly new and clean. The kitchen space was very tightly squeezed into a hallway and cupboard space was lacking. The coffeemaker was a peculator... who knows how to use one of those dinosaurs?... not us, we ended up with massive grounds and murkiness in our coffee.

The elevator was creaky and slow, and a few of the exterior lights were burned out. The wind whipped through the door's cracks and howled loudly all day and night.

The neighborhood was pleasant. The Newport was located beside a Subway restaurant and a stone's throw from the boardwalk. The Newport had great potential to be a fantastic motel if the overall maintenance were given some priority.

The balcony was just big enough for two chairs. This is okay, unless you have four people and everyone wants to sit outside.

The rooms were kept clean, and the people were friendly. The motel had just been purchased by new people and hopefully those loose ends will be fixed for the next tourist season.

All things considered, it was a very nice location with a good view for a really bargain price.

The Lampost....nice location!

The Lampost is an older motel, but it has a nice pool and patios to enjoy the warm summer sun in Wildwood. The rooms are comfortable but not fancy.

All of the rooms are efficiencies, so you can save a lot of money by going to the local grocery store and buying some snacks, drinks, and food. Each unit has two televisions--that is a big plus for families!

Surf Song

This motel was built in 1993 and enlarged in 2003, so it's one of Wildwood's newest and most modern motels.

I stayed at Surf Song several different times. The rooms are spacious and pleasant. I would recommend the new section over the old, as the new rooms are in better condition.

The rooms by the patio are nice because you can cook easily on the gas grills and lounge on the provided chairs. Be aware, if you are an early bird, you may be annoyed staying in the patio area because people like to gather at this area late at night and sometimes make excess noise.

Surf Song's location is nice, since the beach and boardwalk are so close.

The housekeeping services are not the best. I would prefer things be cleaned a little better.

Montego Bay

The best place to stay in Wildwood!

We only stayed here once, because the prices get a bit high during the summer season. The resort has one-, two-, and three-bedroom efficiency apartments. We stayed in a one-bedroom oceanfront unit. The view from the balcony was spectacular, and we walked to just about everything.

The Montego Bay added an indoor pool and water park last summer, which is a really nice addition.

The two televisions per unit are also a nice thing to have for families--though you will seldom need to use them.

Attraction

The Fudgy-wudgy man
The sand gets raked early each morning, so it is relatively clean. The beach is very wide, so there is plenty of room for Frisbee players AND sunbathers. Lifeguards are generously spread throughout the long stretch of shallow ocean, making the beach a great beach for kids.

Fires are not allowed, and neither are dogs.

Often in the heat of the day the "Fudgie-Wudgie guy" rolls his Good Humor cart past to sell the sun-baked tourists a cool refreshing treat.

Photographers will want to take your picture to put in a scope-viewer that you can purchase as a souvenir.

Dolphins frequently swim close to the beach--what a thrill!

Wildwood beach is a people-watchers paradise...big, small, old, young, and people of every color all enjoy the Wildwood beach!

The Wildwood Boardwalk is a pizza connoisseur’s dream. With pizza shops on virtually every block, the aroma of fresh-tossed pizza gently permeates through the crowded boardwalk.

Many refer to this pizza as New York-Style Pizza, but I call it Boardwalk Pizza! They have extra-large slices of freshly made pizza with a thin, yet tasteful, crust topped with the traditional topping of pepperoni and cheese, or vegetables, seafood, and a variety of sauces and cheeses. Yes, a pizza for everyone's tastes and preferences! I am strictly rating the place based on the traditional pepperoni- and cheese-topped pizza.

Sam's Pizza Palace (2600 Boardwalk) has been my husband’s and my favorite for at least a decade. The same people have prepared our pizza for as long as we can remember. We look forward to seeing the same experienced pizza-makers. Sam has a great ratio of cheese, sauce, and crust - an all-around great pizza.

Mama Leone's 11 (2720 Boardwalk) is my kid's favorite pizza shop. They thought it had a nice Italian flavor.

Mack's Pizza (4200 Boardwalk) is also very good pizza. I thought they were also good but not better than Sam's.

Jumbo's Pizza and Seafood (on Morey's Pier) was featured on the Food Network as having HUGE slices, so we had to try the pizza. The slices were Paul Bunyan size for sure! Unfortunately, the sauce was lacking in seasoning and the whole pizza was bland and somewhat tasteless. Though that, of course, is my opinion; it would be worth you're while to try for yourself... don't get me wrong, I cleaned my plate!

Most of the pizza shops are open air, and some have no seating. There are benches on the boardwalk to rest on and watch the ocean waves, but they are not necessarily made for eating on. I recommend eating inside or under a covered bench because the seagulls love pizza as much as people do and are not shy about it! I have on many occasions witnessed the gulls dive-bomb and steal a whole slice off a plate.

My suggestion is to try as many pizza places as possible to establish your own personal favorite. Forget about that girlish figure when you are on vacation because Wildwood is pizza heaven!
