Weekend in Chicago

An August 2004 trip to Chicago by rfpan

Quote: What a great city! We ate at Ed DeBevic's (great service) and walked along Chicago's beaches. We could not pick one favorite museum. Do not ignore the beaches. Navy Pier is our favorite place, day or night, and we recommend eating at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Hotel Allegro Chicago - A Kimpton Hotel

Hotel | "Hotel Allegro"

This is one of the cutest places I have ever stayed! It is right in the heart of the theater district and a short walk from the "L". The inside of the hotel is designed in a retro-chic sort of fashion with red and blue velvet chairs for relaxing. The room we had was similarly dressed, and the bathrooms, while not large, were quaint and gave the feel of the building's history. The staff was knowledgeable and always willing to help with whatever we needed. The price was equivalent to a budget hotel. We will be return guests here!

Bubba Gump Shrimp

The dining here was so much fun. Not only is the food great, but the atmosphere is also fabulous. The movie Forrest Gump is playing while you are waiting to be seated, and the soundtrack to the movie is heard overhead while dining. There is outdoor seating for nice nights, and it is very accessible, as it is located right at the front of Navy Pier, so there isn't a whole lot of walking to get there.

Museum of Science & Industry

Attraction | "Museum of Science and Industry"

Quote:
This museum will easily take all day to explore, so get there early. There is so much to see and do here for adults and kids of all ages. Get a map and decide what you want to see most, because it is quite possible that you will miss it in the vastness of the museum. It's not just for the science buffs--everyone can enjoy a day here.
