Disney at Summer Bay

A December 2004 trip to Orlando by lkirkman

We took the whole family--all seven of us--to Disney. The stay at Summer Bay was wonderful. Only downfall was that they charge to use the lake activities and the mini-golf course.

If you like seafood, this is the place to eat: whole lobsters, scallops, shrimp, and crab legs, all-you-can-eat, good price for good food.

The best time to go is in winter. The spring is always 52°F, so the water is a little chilly. You can rent gear for $10, and the trip is only $35. Ask for Capitan Andy; he was great. We had 2 hours out there and were in the water with seven manatees coming and going. The kids enjoyed it, too; however, if they haven't snorkeled before, let them in the pool to try before going. Make sure to ask Captain Andy. It’s a little chilly but well worth it.

Attraction

Horse World was wonderful—the kids had a blast. For $35 per person, you get a hour on the horse on the trail. We saw alligators and deer, a turkey, and lots of birds. The guide was great at pointing out things to the kids and making sure we all had a great time. Make sure to tip them; that’s how they get paid.
