Park City Skiing and Nightlife

A December 2004 trip to Park City by Figjam

This was a weekend of skiing and playing in Park City!! The skiing was excellent, but the nightlife, ehhh... not so much.

Well, I skied at the Canyons, and it was awesome! They had over 150 trails! I think I made, like, three of them, and trust me, that was plenty!!

Quick Tips:

Obviously, if you want to ski, go during the week. If you want to party, you have to hit the major times of year, like the week of Christmas and New Years. Parking is crazy in the city! There's a lot of free parking, but they fill up quickly and you can't park overnight typically.

Best Way To Get Around:

There are hardly any taxis. The public buses are great - FREE and efficient. If you are in Park City for winter, you better have four-wheel drive, but if not, expect to use chains. It can get bad very quickly.

Best Things Nearby:
Skiing... and that's it!

Best Things About the Resort:
It's right on the mountain - ski in and ski out! There is a fantastic heated outdoor pool and hot tub!!! There are great restaurants and a bar on site!

Resort Experience:
It's a very beautiful resort in a perfect ski setting! The Canyons sit about 3 miles outside of downtown Park City, but if you want to ski, this is it. This resort is certainly worthy of its Gold Crown status. It is a full-service ski resort, with a great locker room for your ski equipment, or if you want, you can just hull your stuff up to your room! Very cool! They have room service, a weight room, spas, hot tubs… everything!

The units are a little sub par considering. The TV was just a plain ol’ tube - no DVD player, just a VCR, and there was no stereo, just a junky little CD/alarm/clock thing. Maid service asked me like six times one day if I needed cleaning! That was sort of annoying, but other than these little picky things, this was a great vacation!

Best Things About the Resort:
Location, location, location...

Resort Experience:
They have a very nice and friendly staff, and it is set in a quaint but very clean hotel/resort setting. This has been an affiliate of RCI for a long time, so it is a little older.

However, the unit I was in was very large! It was about 800 square feet, if not more. That surprised me! There was a decent kitchen and a big open living room with a couch and several chairs, and there was still enough room for a dining table. There was a big bedroom with tons of room. It probably deserves a R.I.D. award.

I hear that they have some crazy good vegetarian food there! Taco Tuesdays is supposed to be killer. I haven’t been there, but that's the word on the street.

This is the bar/pub right off the Canyons' slopes! Most people are there because they just finished skiing, and Jay, the bartender, is awesome! If Jay is working, have fun!! There is great food, a fireplace surrounded by couches, a great bar, and a great set up for sports as well!

Attraction | "Full Clown!!"

Well, I was in Park City the Saturday before Christmas. I was expecting for it to be sorta busy because Park City was at 95% capacity, but at 2am, I was walking right down the middle of Main Street because it was empty! I hear that the week between Christmas and New Years it is a little busier, but it was at 95% capacity when I was there!

In other words, Park City is a pretty quiet mountain town. Maybe it will pick up between January and March, but I don't know how much it could. My buddy was out at 9pm on a Thursday, and he couldn't find ONE place open to feed him!! 9pm!!! So he ate a bag of freakin’ popcorn! Ha! It was just not as crackin’ as I had hoped. If you go out, O'Tooles, or something like that, was a nice chill bar. I met a wicked hot snow bunny there!! If you don't know, just get out and try them all! That’s what Todd and I did; we hit every club till we found a winner!!!
