Aruba 2004

A November 2004 trip to Aruba by escape4walls

Second trip. Best restaurant was Tango's--great tango dancers, best beef in the world. Did a pole dance on the banana bus and had a blast! Best dance club was Carlos & Charlie's--great, loud, hard dancing music, and locals are not afraid to have a good time with tourists.

Overview

Tango's Restaurant, down by the high-rise hotels and across the street from Allegro, was wonderfully charming. My friend took a tango lesson from a very talented young couple, Carlos and Ariana. They will be competing internationally next summer in Buenos Aires. They personally saw to arranging a front-and-center table for us. The sales staff from Allegro, overseeing a birthday party, enjoyed appetizers and drinks with us. We were pleased when they joined us at our table and stayed to enjoy the show with us. Everyone was very accommodating, and I would highly recommend the Argentinean beef. It is the best!

We went on the banana bus and were joined by three couples from La Cabana. We were all about the same age and hit it off right from the start. Everyone had a blast, and the driver and "banana boy" were great sports. My favorite spots were the local neighborhood bar and one called Carlos & Charlie's. I went to dance, and it was non-stop at both of these places. On the way back to the hotel, I decided it was time to try some pole-dancing. My friend was in shock, and everyone else was cheering me on. The next evening, we got in town to go dancing again and met up with the bus, and we were invited to finish the run, which was C&C’s again. What a blast! A local asked me to dance, and we danced for an hour. It was the best time I have had in a long time.

Quick Tips:

We attended the Sunday morning orientation at La Cabana, listened to the presentation, and chose a few things to do. Most activites were discounted - by purchasing at this presentation, versus calling directly to book.

Best Way To Get Around:

Buses and minibuses are definitely the best way to go. Most drivers were willing to let us know when our stop was approaching. The only downfall is that the last bus back out to the hotels is at midnight, but a taxi is only if you really want to stay out. It's nice that all the rates are locked in and are the same, no matter which taxi you use.

Hotel

My friend's timeshare room apparently had been flooded during the two weeks of rain just before we got there. Quite a moldy/musty smell was eliminated with lots of scent sacks. The Pizza Shop was new since our last visit and was quite good. The masseuse, Patricia, was wonderful. I went twice. The Patio Bar was the best hangout, and lots of new friends were made.

Restaurant

A very nice, cozy atmosphere. Tango dancers have three shows on the 3/4 hour, dancing to three songs each set. Very talented, personable, and accommodating. Argentinian beef is the specialty and well worth the few extra dollars. My filet mignon was exquisite. I have to say that Argentinian beef IS the best in the world. I have never been disappointed. Between the tango dancing, there was a gentleman singing out on the patio for those who chose to dine outside. He was very good and played to the audience, and they seemed to enjoy him very much. I give this wonderful establishment six stars. I was very impressed and will definitely go back when I return to Aruba.
