A Nature Reserve in a Busy City

A June 2004 trip to Singapore by silverhawk

Ssshh....More Photos

For people who want to find refreshment from the busy city and get closer to the nature, there is a nature reserve called Bukit Timah, where you can take the hiking trail or bring your bicycle and take the bicycle trail up the hill into the forest.

If you are the type of person who likes being close to the nature, especially when you are tired from the busy city, you will feel good with those high trees and sounds of the forest around you while you do the walking on the nature path or cycling on the bicycle path (they have different routes).

Quick Tips:

Wear comfortable clothes, like a T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers or hiking boots. Bring enough water and a small towel. You might want to bring some toiletries to use after cleaning up.

Best Way To Get Around:

You can get there by taxi, or you can take bus no. 916.

There were nice clean rooms with a shower (only one single room had no shower). There is also a common room with books and Internet access. It was run by very helpful hosts and only a few minutes walk to the Outram Park Interchange MRT station, from where you could easily go anywhere in the city. It is in a nice quiet neighbourhood in Chinatown, where you can meet many other travellers. It is only S$17 per bed, per night for a dorm.

Ssshh....
This is a tropical forest with high trees and the sounds of the forest. It is soothing, especially when you are tired from a busy week in the city.
