The Moon Palace staff obviously knows who pays the bills. I have never been to a hotel in the United States (including such luxury locations as Marco Island) where you were really treated like royalty. This year we went on a tour of the "underground" food-preparation area, laundry area, etc. It is an impressive operation, with standards exceeding most in the U.S. Moon Palace is isolated, guarded, and probably one of the safest places to go these days. The waiters at the restaurants are quite exceptional, especially since they are not expecting tips, because the resort is all-inclusive. My daughters now don't want to go ANYWHERE else on vacation, they like it so much.
Quick Tips:
The free tours are all great, and we have been on almost all: the Mayan ruins at Chichen-Itza, Tulum, Coba, Ek Balaam, Isla Mujeres, and Xpu-Ha.
I really enjoyed the ruins, but that is a personal preference thing. Warning: It is generally hot and humid because you are inland.
Paying tours include Xcaret, the Aqua World Jungle Tour, and the El Manglar Jungle Tour.
Xcaret is first-class, and Aqua World seems a bit better than El Manglar, mainly because the boats and guides are better.
Best Way To Get Around:
Everything is within walking distance, and if you go on one of the free or paying tours, they pick you up in an air-conditioned bus at the door. They have arrangements for transportation to take you from the airport. The only issue there is avoiding all the rest of the people at the airport trying to sell you stuff. Just keep marching until you see your pick-up people.
