Ski Week in Summit County

A December 2004 trip to Dillon by Burk Schmidt

This is a beautiful area! We went skiing for 4 days at Copper Mountain. We also visited various ski resorts in the area and caves in Glenwood Springs and drove to Aspen. Breckenridge is a beautiful town for shopping, dining, or just strolling through. I would like to do that again in the summer.

Copper Mountain Ski Resort
The main purpose of our trip was to ski and relax. There are certainly plenty of ski resorts around. They can be a little intimidating for relatively inexperienced skiers like us, but Copper Mountain treated us very well. They have a good selection of easy runs. Later we had a great time on the intermediate runs.

The drive along the I70 to Glenwood Springs was very scenic. The caves and the view from the top of the mountain are fantastic.

We discovered Main Street Breckenridge on our last evening - a little too late to really take it all in. There are many nice shops and restaurants there.

It also looks like there are many wonderful summer activities. Maybe one day we'll go back, but for now, there are many other places to see first.

Quick Tips:

Copper Mountain has a great deal on lift tickets - go to customer service and buy the Copper Card for . We got lift tickets for half price!

Best Way To Get Around:

Summit County has a free bus service, but we preferred our rental car.

Best Things Nearby:
There is nothing nearby.

Best Things About the Resort:
The best was the activity centre with a pool and hot tub.

Resort Experience:
The condo was a good size, the layout was fine, and it had all the conveniences. The washer and dryer were really handy to have right in the unit.

However, it was getting rather old and in need of a little renovation, specifically the bathroom off the bedroom, as all taps could use a replacement. A new carpet in the dining/living room would be nice. The cleaning could be a little better, especially of the sticky dirt around the door handles. Whoever exchanges with our Georgian Manor Resort in Collingwood, Ontario, is definitely getting a better bargain!
