San Antonio is a great place to visit. If you live in Texas, it can be a great getaway close to home. The town is very cultural, historic, and has great food!

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

If you stay downtown, you can walk to the Alamo and the Riverwalk. There is also a downtown trolley that is easy to catch and cheap.

Hotel | "Clarion Hotel Riverwalk"

This hotel is on the Riverwalk, but be aware that it is at the far end. You walk along the river about half a mile to get to any restaurants or shops. The walk was pleasant, and since it was December, there were Christmas lights hanging over the river for added ambience. There is a trolley that stops out front to take you to downtown attractions. There is a concierge desk with maps of the downtown area, as well as full city maps. I was a bit wary because the hotel restaurant was the closest place to eat breakfast, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. I had some great French toast. There was also a buffet line and traditional and Mexican á la carte options.

For Riverwalk accommodations, this is a very reasonable place to stay. The rooms are clean, of an average size, and come with high-speed Internet access, coffee, a TV with HBO, etc. There is a hotel parking lot that is accessed through the circular drive at the hotel entrance. For the convenience of being on the river, this hotel was a great deal. I booked through a travel website and paid about $100 after taxes. For other Riverwalk hotels, you will average $200 to $300 a night.

La Margarita Restaurant & Oyster BarBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "La Margarita Mexican Resturant and Oyster Bar"

This place is not called La Margarita by accident. They make every margarita from scratch, and they are the best I have ever had. Each time I come to San Antonio, I make a point to eat here, even if I am not staying downtown. From the Riverwalk hotels, you can take a trolley to the Mexican Market where La Margarita is located. If you actually get around to eating, the fajitas are excellent and usually have enough for two people to share (with leftovers). There is also a roving mariachi band that will play for a small fee. This charge can be added to your bill. If you park behind the restaurant in the La Margarita parking lot, you can have your parking ticket stub validated before leaving the restaurant. This will save about $5 in parking fees. The parking lot is on Dolorosa Street.
