Suitability for Families:
This is not a place for families, in my opinion. The casino element pervades too much of the hotel. Being that the drinking/gambling age is 21, and the fact that the only in-hotel activity for a person under that age is to play in the arcade, if your children don't care much for entertaiments of the electronic kind, they may become very bored.
Restaurants in the Hotel:
The hotel has several restaurants of note, my pick being Lluwellyns. This is a continental American restaurant situated on the 19th floor (the top) of Harvey's. It is acessible by utilizing the Lake Tower Elevators adjacent to the hotel lobby. Reservations are recommended, and food is in the mid to high price range. Expect to shell out a pretty penny, as this restaurant isn't a coffee house. The food varies from day to day and is created from freshly delivered produce and meats. In the foyer of the restaurant is a comprehensive wine list.
Health Club and other Amenities:
There is a health club that has a daily use cost of $15 and a business center with high-speed Internet connections, fully equipped computers, fax machine, printers, and such. Both are located on the convention center level of the hotel.
The Harvey's Arcade is open 24 hours daily and offers such popular games as skeeball, "Dance Dance Revolution" and "Crazy Taxi". Token-changers and ticket-redeeming machines abound in the thick of things and make it easy to go from change to play to redeem.
Accommodations:
Lodging at Harvey's is in one of their two towers. The Mountain Tower rooms are slightly less expensive but similarly decorated to the rooms in the Lake Tower.
They have views of the city and adjoining casinos and hotels. The Lake Tower is newer and slightly more upscale, and quite a few of the rooms have views of Lake Tahoe. Ask to go up and see the room that the hotel would like you to be placed in to see if that room has a lake or city view. Sometimes the "Lake View Rooms" have less of a view of the lake than the rooms that supposedly don't have a lake view, and you might end up paying an unecessary upgrade price that isn't truly warranted!
With the exception of my gripe in the first section, I highly reccomend Harvey's to anyone who enjoys beautiful surroundings in the midst of a quaint mountain town.
