November 1999..
WE went to Duxford. This is an old airfield. They have about 7-9 old planes outside that you can tour. There are 5 buildings, that you can see all kinds of different things. One is all old planes. Building number 5 is all tanks. There is one dedicated to American vehicles. This place will keep you busy all day. There is a comp shuttle from the train station every hour. Check the website.

Quick Tips:

Take an early train if you plan a day trip, so you can get the most out of the day.

Best Way To Get Around:

In the city of Cambridge walking is the best way to get around. We concentrated on Duxford as a day trip this time we didn't even go into the city.
Checking out the room
This is a very nice hotel with a good location, please see the website as they have pictures.

I would stay there again and would recommend it to others. Breakfast was included in the rate.

Looks like a nice place..
This is a very quaint looking pub, right on the main street in Cambridge. The food is pub food. We had the Ploughmans lunch. That is Cheese, bread with a small salad. They also have a good selection of beers.

Shopping in local market
The hotel dining room serves lunch and dinner. The menu was quite extensive and we had dinner there the first night and it was very good. The lunch menu also looked pretty good. I think I would even eat there if we werent staying there.

Attraction

This is definitley the CONCORD
Again see my London journal. We have hit all the branches of the Imperial War Museum. Even if you are not big into war stuff this is interesting.

I can only look at so many tanks but my father-in-law loved the building with all the tanks. Personally I liked the Concord and seeing all the planes.

They have tons of jeeps. They just had a special exhibit on "SPITFIRE SUMMER" the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.I learned a lot that my Catholic education never went over. I guess the nuns in the 60's were not much into WWII.

I could go on and on but hope the pictures I put in will be better at explaining things. In the winter and fall you can't go in all the planes outside just 2. But there is a Concord inside building 1 that you can tour. I really enjoyed it both times we went. The first time we stayed overnight and just this Nov 2000 we went up for a day trip from London.

The grounds
The Campus is really beautiful. We just walked around for a while and admired the grounds. The whole city is nice. There is a church called the round church which you can go in and that was also very interesting. Again Cambridge is small so its easy to see everything.
