What a great experience! This restaurant is French-inspired, but with some great flair. Somthing you'd never expect to find in a small town. Beautifully decorated, with great ambiance. I loved the tin ceilings and French-inspired decorations. No rushing to finish your meal...very attentive staff and a truly amazing list of martinis (I recommend the Metropolitan).

The menu changes every day, but everything we had was just superb. A great variety of seafood, fish, lamb, poultry, and vegetarian cuisine. The salads and desserts were also just fantastic. We ordered a mushroom and mandarin orange salad, as well as the chef's special calamari with banana peppers as appetizers. For entrees, we shared sushi-quality tuna and an amazing steak topped with lump crab meat. And the presentation is a sight to behold!

The restaurant employs a pastry chef, so we just had to sample, and we were glad we did. The chocolate tower cake was like nothing I ever had.

A great restaurant for a business dinner or special occasion celebration. Also a perfect location for dinner before or after seeing a show at the Strand Capitol Performing Arts Center.

This is a combination of Vietnamese and Thai cuisine. A great family-owned restaurant. The decor isn't much, and the place is small, so be prepared for a little bit of a wait, but it's very worth it. We loved the roast pork with spring rolls, the chicken satay, and the house noodle soup. Also had a great bananas flambe with ginger ice cream for dessert.

A little off the beaten path, but a true favorite of the locals!

A really funky little place -- great outside dining in the courtyard behind the restaurant, which is vine-covered and peppered with white lights. The staff use the herbs from the gardens in back of the restaurant for cooking. It's kind of a "crunchy-granola" place, if you know what I mean. Lots of great veggie options and free-range chicken, but also more traditional fare such as lasagna, pasta, and even some French-inspired dishes. Staff is very attentive, and the dinner menu changes frequently.

One other highlight is the ever-changing art. The restaurant also hosts local artists and sells their works on consignment, so the decor is constantly changing, as is the assortment of mismatched dishes and silverware. Great jazz and blues music fills the air as you dine outside.

The desserts are also very good, especially the creme brulee and the strawberry shortcake.

Restaurant | "The Commonwealth Room-- Yorktowne Hotel"

The Commonwealth Room
This is York's only four-diamond-rated restaurant, and it is truly excellent. An outstanding menu features Ahi tuna carpaccio, jumbo lump crab and Maine lobster roll, and duck strudel as appetizers, a wide variety of soups and salads, including a baked five-onion soup, and entrees such as Australian lamb, bison, rabbit, beef tenderloin, and braised pheasant.

Obviously, this is NOT your standard restaurant menu. I encourage you to be a little adventurous -- I tried the rabbit (for the first time ever), and it was amazing!

For dessert, we shared a York peppermint pattie (of course!), which is homemade peppermint ice cream served with chocolate, vanilla, and rasberry sauces.

The atmosphere is like the old grand hotels of generations past -- a truly special occasion place!
