Overview

There are so many highlights to this trip that it is hard to name just a few. The most basic message that I want to get across is that Gaudi is a genius. He really had an amazing mind for design, and since many of the important buildings in the city were designed by him, you can't go wrong by visiting sites like Barri Gothic Cathedral, Sagrada Familia Cathedral, Park Guell, or the Gaudi houses.

Quick Tips:

Have some sangria.

Best Way To Get Around:

The public transportation is quite good. I bought a 10-use pass for my four-day trip, and it worked out perfectly. I was able to see plenty of good stuff and also walk through the streets when I wasn't always dependent on the tube.

Attraction | "Sagrad Familia-A Most Interesting Cathedral"

This is definitely the most interesting cathedral that I have ever been to. First of all, it is unfinished, which makes for an interesting walk through it. The construction might be slightly distracting, but you have to understand the massive project they are undertaking. Also, by paying for your visit, you contribute to the completion of this wonder. Gaudi enjoyed using colorful mosaics in his works, which may seem out of place for a cathedral, but it is tastefully done. Also, the climb to the top is a must because it really gives you a great view of the city!

Attraction | "Rambling through Parc Guell"

Another work attesting to the brilliance of Gaudi. He cleverly weaves paths up the sides of the foothills of the Pyrnees. He also decorates with a fountain, beautiful mosaics, and other interesting art forms. The many observation points give great views of the city and even out over the sea. The Gaudi Museum is also in this park, although I did not visit it. This is best visited on a clear day. It's truly incredible and possibly my favorite thing to see in Barcelona!

Attraction | "Gaudi House (Casa Botllo)"

This house is amazing. It is a work that Gaudi was commissioned to redesign. The tour is slightly pricey but worth every penny. Gaudi made great works out of space and put together the rooms of the house like a puzzle. He saw the purpose of each room he designed and the purpose behind it. The audio tour is very useful for explaining what was behind Gaudi's thought process as he designed this house.
