Taste of a small town

A May 2002 trip to Burleson by samepenny

Quote: Burleson is a sweet little town that is growing fast about 30 minutes south of the D-FW Airport on I-35 West. It's a fun place to go to shop, lunch and hang around. More pick=ups than cars and you can have a good time without going to Walmart.

Shopping, especially antiques and bar-b-que.

Visit Olde Town for historic sites, food and specialty shopping. I understand that this is still a great place to hunt garage sales and flea markets on the weekends. Although I don't usually shop that way. I prefer nice, organized shops.

Quick Tips:

A great Saturday place! You don't have to look very far to find a nice parking place big enough for a large SUV or pick-up.

Best Way To Get Around:

This is Texas. You have to drive or be driven. The drive down from DFW Airport is about 30 minutes to the South on I-35W.

Reservations needed on Saturday especially during prime shopping season. Mostly lady's food. Light sandwiches etc. Teas and desserts. Open 11am to 3pm only Monday through Saturday. In Bailey's. Guys, go down the street to the bar-b-q. This one isn't for you!

Another 'Olde Town' shop, this one is also fun. I really love the heritage lace they have on sale. OK, so this is a place where mostly women shop, but who do you think do most of the shopping in this world. Their 'scents' and candles seem so strong that they will almost drive you out the door, but they are very good when used at home. They also sell tea pots, tea and tea making accessories.

Monday through Saturday 10am to 6pm. (817) 447-2323.

A genuine 'this is where the cowboys go to shop' place with very good prices especially on hats and jeans. The most popular item that they sell is Wrangler Men's Cowboy Cut jeans. Open daily, Sundays before Christmas. Clothing (817) 558-3334, saddles and tack (817) 641-4039. Not at all far from Burleson.

An interesting place to poke around, eat, shop and have some fun. This is what small town Texas used to look like before things got so fancy. Plenty of parking, usually no crowds. There are parks in the area so you can give your children a break from shopping. Although just a fast 10 minutes down I-35 West from downtown Fort Worth, Burleson gives you the feeling that you are far from the Metroplex. Lots of calendar appropriate activities, Christmas parades etc. It's a good idea to look at the local newpapers to see what might be going on. Burleson is a very fast growing town with all the usual surburben stuff, but Olde Town remains prosperous and relatively unchanged.

This is a strange, expensive and noisy activity. You pay about $65 for a 10 minute 'flight' on a modified jet that hangs by wires from large pylons. You are flung over the countryside with some control over where you go. Very popular with teenage boys. Opening hours and days vary. It's up to you, how you want to spend your money. Local residents are very irritated about this business.
