Bangladesh is a plain delta-you will never find a rocky creek to walk or a thousand-meter peak to climb or practice rock climbing in nature right? Wrong, just a 1-day bus and boat journey from the capital city Dhaka and you are in a middle of a rocky creek. Walk through it and climb the rocks surrounding it. As far as your sight goes, you can see the green rain forest and dark blue hills faded to dark gray in the sky.
Quick Tips:
Do not wear any fancy running shoe. You have to cross knee-high water so many times that you will easily miscount. Just an all-rubber sandal with a good grip will do. Prepare to sweat. Take plenty of sugar and salts with you. You also need a torch (with a heavy-duty battery), camera, and a few clothes. That's enough. If you are kind of person who carries the world with them, hire a Bohm Guide or just forget any baggage. If you are not Bangladeshi, register yourself in the police stations and army camps in Banderban and Ruma.
Best Way To Get Around:
From Dhaka-to Banderban, it is an 8-hour bus journey.
From Panthapath Dolphin and S Alam, there is direct bus in the evening at 8pm and 11pm. The price is around 200 BDT.
From Banderban to Ruma Ghat, it is 3 hours on a four-wheeler. The four-wheelers are called Chander Gari, meaning the Vehicle to Moon.
From the Dhaka bus station to the Chander Gari Station on a rikshaw (a three-wheeler), it is 15 minutes for 15 BDT per ride.
From Ruma Ghat to Ruma-Bazar, it is 2 hours by boat.
From Ruma, you can only get to wilderness by foot. Ruma has the police station, last market, last rest house, and last electricity-the last signs of civilisation.
On foot, Keokradong takes two days of trekking.
