You Must Go to Tahoe!

An April 2004 trip to South Lake Tahoe by Cindyeee

Quote: Tahoe is an easy-to-reach, all-seasons destination. Great seasonal snow and waterskiing, casinos, great food, and fun nearby. We went for late spring skiing and enjoyed three different mountains, even though Heavenly was closed! The huge lake and alpine setting are gorgeous! You must go!

Tahoe Beach & Ski Club

Best Things Nearby:Great location, just down the street from all the action. It's a mile or so to the casinos but an easy, pleasant walk around the lake. Heavenly is also within walking distance, but a shuttle is available through town and from the Tahoe Beach and Ski Club. If you get bored with Heavenly, there are many, many great skiing opportunities within a 30-minute drive. The Tahoe Beach and Ski Club backs up to the lake, with a small beach and park available for guests.Best Things About the Resort:This one-bedroom was very large and beautifully appointed. The partial kitchen was more than adequate. The sofa bed was very comfortable, and there is a 3/4 bath off the living...Read More

Chevys Fresh Mex

Restaurant | "Chevy's Mexican Restaurant"

We are not lucky enough to have a Chevy's near our home, or we would eat there all the time! It is best described as a sort of healthy Tex-Mex. The portions are HUGE. You have many, many choices of entrees and side dishes -- all we tried were delicious. We had lunch twice and dinner once in a week. This restaurant is about halfway between the Tahoe Beach & Ski Resort and the casinos on the mountain side of the street. It doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but believe us -- it is MUY BIEN!!!

Ponderosa Ranch

Attraction | "The Ponderosa Ranch"

Quote:
The Ponderosa is the home of the Cartwright family, the fictional characters in the long-running TV show Bonanza. It is an authentic replica (!) of a rancher's home in the 1800s. The house was actually used in the TV series when they were on location. You will never watch the show in the same way again. They had some very inventive cameramen! There is a long main street of an old western town, complete with the blacksmith, jail, general store, fire station, and much, much more. There is a long hike you can take up through the woods, where lots of the cowboy chases took place. We were there on the first day of the season (April 18 or so). Not all of the activities were available on that day...Read More
