Hawaii's Hidden Jewel

An October 2002 trip to Hawaii (Big Island) by Cindyeee

Vacation Internationale Sea Mountain is a hidden gem. There is a beautiful ocean view, pool, and hot tub steps away from green turtles, black sand beach, and golf. The units are great. It is also near Volcano National Park. We stay at Sea Mountain often. You'll love it too!

Best Things Nearby:
Just up the street from a black sand beach where green sea turtles swim in the waves, sun on the sand, and nest on the shore.

This is near the southern most point in the United States, sacred to the Hawaiians. The little town of Naalehu is small but charming, with a great public market early Saturday morning. Also nearby is the Volcano National Park.

Best Things About the Resort:
The units are very nice. Ask for the handicapped unit (no. 61) just behind the pool. The pool and barbeque area are very nice, and there is a great hot tub. The Pacific Ocean is your backdrop.

Resort Experience:
The one-bedroom, one-bath handicapped unit just behind the pool area was great for four adults. There is a Murphy bed in the living room and a huge bedroom and bath. It is very nicely appointed and fully equipped. Ask for unit no. 61-I would think it is the ONLY handicapped unit in the RCI inventory at this resort. The pool area is perfect. We go there all the time just to get out of town. It is out of the way, and there is no nightlife to speak of. The golfing is at your doorstep and is really a fun course. This is a quite out-of-the-way place about halfway between Kona and Hilo.

Restaurant | "Kilauea Lodge"

This is a local favorite for celebrations and special occasions. In fact, if you let them know of your special day, they will print it on the menu that night. They have a lot of unusual specials, including wild game. The restaurant is located in a former YMCA camp, and its fireplace is very unique. This is actually a bed-and-breakfast. If you spend the night, a nice brunch is included. Dinner is open to the public by reservation only. The brunch is for overnight guests only. There is a good wine selection too! This is not for those on a budget, and remember, this is Hawaii. Service will be according to "local" time. Relax and enjoy!
