Trip to South Florida

I had a great time. When I left home, it was 60 degrees, but it was 85 degrees the whole week in Florida. Nice breezes that didn't make it cold. Two things that were the highlight of the trip: first, we drove to Key West for Halloween. It was indescribable -- the parade, the costumes, the people. Mardi Gras has nothing on this. Second was the trip to the Everglades. This is one of the most remarkable places you can ever see. Quick Tips: The resort gave out ID cards for discounts at local restaurants and attactions. We got a 40% discount for the Everglades Holiday Park airboat rides. We were also there during the International Boat Show, which is an annual event. We got to see the latest and ...Read More
Best Things Nearby:All the South Florida beach communities and the Everglades.Best Things About the Resort:Access to other areas of Florida and the Everglades.Resort Experience:They have an excellent room setup at the resort and one of the better swimming pools I've been to. They have a calender of events for every day of the week, with children and adults in mind. They give you an ID card to be used at some of the local restaurants and attractions. They have a shuttle to get you to some of the attractions. You would be wiser to get a car to get around, though. Check-in and check-out are a snap. One drawback for me was that room cleanup is only once a week. If...Read More

Sunset in Key West

Everyday there is a celebration in Key West during sunset. It is called the Sunset Celebration. You get a perfect view of the sun going down in the west. It is a spectacular event to watch the sun disappear into the Gulf of Mexico. They also have several performers who do anything from juggling to escape artist tricks to sword swallowing. They have a lot of people selling local arts and crafts as well. Restaurants have live bands playing, and there is lots of drinking going on. It is one big party during sunset in Key West. It kind of has a Bourbon Street feel.

Everglades National Park

Attraction | "Everglades"

The park was within a couple of miles of the resort. It is very easy to get to. There is plenty of parking. We purchased a ticket with a 40% discount from the resort. The staff was friendly and down to earth. After a short wait, we were called to the boat we were taking out. The boats are run by what appears to be an airplane engine mounted high in the back. The first thing that caught my eye about the Everglades is that it all looks the same. I immediately started wondering how the drivers knew where they were. The everglades are beautiful and vast. We rode around to look for alligators. We were fortunate to see a couple. We also saw several different birds. After the boat ride...Read More
