A May 2004 trip to St. Petersburg Beach by ARAMISmartinez

A short little getaway is what this trip was for. We got there, and the whole town is nothing but a tourist trap. Shops of all kinds everywhere you look. The beaches where amazing and very white. It's a different side of the world from where we are from.

The best thing to do is take your time and look around. The beaches are beautiful. The sand and water are unbelievable. There are lots of little shops to visit, most of them rather expensive but nice nonetheless. This place is full of things to do, from fishing to miniature golf.

Quick Tips:

The best thing to do is know what kind of activity you are interested in, and ask the staff at your resort where to find these things. Things seem to be hidden in this place, and only the natives know where they are, so don’t be afraid to ask.

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around is a car. Things are too spread apart to walk. A bicycle will get you by, but not well enough to really see everything.
Best Things Nearby:
The beaches are the best. Nice cool sand on your feet. The water is clean and clear.

Best Things About the Resort:
The staff is always willing to help you with anything you may need and are very nice and polite.

Resort Experience:
The pictures were very deceiving. We had to go through the hotel in the front to get to the resort office in the back. The problems with this place started the moment we walked in the room. There was sand and dirt all over the floor. The toilet was broken, with a screw sticking out of it. The bed kept falling off the frame, even after they “fixed” it. The staff was very good about attending to our complaints. The room was much smaller than expected, but was okay for our small family of three. If the place was cleaned and repaired, it would have been a cute place for a short getaway. The best thing about this resort is that the beach is within walking distance. We loved the beaches here. We even had the pleasure of watching a school of whales out in the sea. It was just breathtaking. We sat there and watched the whales until they were out of sight. One evening, while we were walking along the beach, we saw two horseshoe crabs. That was so cool to see them up close and in person. The best things about this whole trip were the restaurants and the beautiful beaches. It’s a different world than where we are from. We will be returning to St. Pete Beach, but we will not be staying at the Coral Reef Beach Resort again.

This place was so fun to eat at. We really had a good time. We were seated right away. The restaurant had a great view of the beach. There was this man who came to our table and took our family picture and made key chains out of them. The food was fresh and hot and yummy! Bill (the owner) himself was there, and he is a very friendly man. He took time out of his busy day to speak to us and shook our hands and even gave our daughter a cute plastic necklace with a red crab on it. The environment was family-oriented and so friendly. We enjoyed the food, as well as the ambiance. We will be returning to Crabby Bill's when we come back to St. Pete Beach!

Vineyard
Best-kept secret in Florida! We were on our way home from St. Pete Beach when we saw a sign that read "Vineyard Wine-Tasting." We followed the signs and found ourselves in the most beautiful vineyard. It was hidden, and it was small. Really cozy! Millie was one of the owners, and she was just the sweetest lady we ever met. She let us taste some of the freshest wines to ever touch our lips. We loved the wine so much that we bought a whole case. The lables on the bottles are well-made, and most everything in the store is homemade with love. If you get the chance, stop by and visit with Millie and taste her wines. We can't wait to take another trip and buy more wine. Check them out on the web at www.edenwinery.com.
