Louisville is on the Ohio River. A riverfront park and baseball stadium were just completed in the last couple of years - both are nice places to catch a ballgame or sunset.
Fall is beautiful in KY. There are lots of trees and plenty of green to enjoy. The city has several beautiful and large parks that shouldn't be missed: Long Run, Tom Sawyer, and our own Central Park.
Louisville also hosts many festivals and events. There is the Kentucky Derby every May, of course. This year the city also welcomed the PGA tournament and players. Louisville also sponsors a couple of jazz festivals, various national/ethnic celebrations and many arts festivals (including a large one in and around historic St. James Court in the fall).
Quick Tips:
Although the downtown area is growing, is is not the most interesting part of the city. There are numerous neighborhoods in Louisville with lots of unique things to do and see - try Germantown, the Highlands, or St. Matthews.
There are still many farms near Louisville (within 20 minutes or so). A drive on a sunny day can really be relaxing. The roads are nothing like those of NY and the traffic is not a problem. You might not see another car for miles, though you might run across a tractor or two on the road. You can still spot cows grazing and plenty of pasture too.
Best Way To Get Around:
I grew up in Lousiville and it is a place where you really need a car to get around. Nothing is very far from anything else, but the public transportation system leaves something to be desired, to say the least!! There is no subway and the buses are very unreliable, as well as, terribly slow. Plus, the bus routes do not cover the entire city.
Taxis are expensive and you probably won't get one without calling ahead unless you are at the airport.
Parking isn't a problem, by the way.
