Two very good restaurants at the bottom of the hill from Mistra Village were La Riveira and The Fortress. Good Indian and Greek halfway down hill. Mellieha Beach was great for kids, exchange rates are best in Buggiba, and Marsaxlokk market on Sunday is a must. Mdina is fabulous, but but go early -- Fontella chocolate shop is a must! Mosta Dome is fab -- the churches are magnificent. Gozo is a great day out -- 20-minute ferry crossing -- and all the island can be seen from the Citadel in Victoria.
We bought hand-made lace from an old lady making it at her front door! It's pretty cheap to eat out, and portions were massive! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and we will be back.
Quick Tips:
Best Way To Get Around:
Great walks, but a car is essential if you want to get somewhere without waiting for a bus connection. Bus service is good, takes you all over the island, and is definitely an experience! Driving is wild, so be alert all the time if hiring a car! Bus service ends at 8:30pm, so that can be inconvenient. Taxis are expensive, so check prices with your driver prior to using them, or pre-book with the hotel before going out. Book taxis with the hotel prior to arrival to and from the airport.
