Living in the Springs

An October 2004 trip to Colorado Springs by mrserb2

Quote: There are many activities for families in and around the Colorado Springs area. We love living here and enjoy raising our children here. The best part is the weather: not too cold or too hot, but with all four seasons.
The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is great exercise for adults, and the kids love it. Kids will also like the carousel; I wouuld recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Spend a few hours a day here if you want to browse through the shops. There are lots of CO souvenirs, handmade items, and crafty stuff, along with a great atmosphere. If you are visiting during the summer, there is a farmer’s market Saturday mornings that can be fun. During the winter, if there is a snowy but not too cold day, consider visiting and enjoying all the Christmas decorations. There is frequently a horse-and-carriage ride available for a fee along the street. For lunch there are many places to grab a bite. Our favorite is Meadow Muffins. There is so much to look at in the bar/restaurant. It is open to kids during the day and in the evening becomes an adults-only place. ...Read More

This is a great place to spend part of the day. Browse the shops and enjoy nearby parks, and the natural soda fountain is fun. The most fun for kids is the old-time arcade, and I must admit, as parents, we had quite a blast as well. There are many little arcades in one area, and you will see many older arcade games that just aren't in the high-tech arcades these days.

If you are looking for the experience of gambling, try visiting Cripple Creek Colorado, less than a 1-hour drive from Colorado Springs. This old mining town also offers little shops and many places to dine. If you like a good steak, you should try one of the many restaurants here.
