A Bavarian setting for the Oktoberfest weekend! They have 3½ acres of flower gardens and pine trees, a swimming pool and spa (looked like they were "out of order"), a basketball court, and barbecue areas. The lobby area is a treat to walk through, with all its interesting antiques and a sweet terrier dog who likes to be petted. They have honeymoon suites, simple motel units, or large chalets with complete kitchens. We stayed in the "haus" closest to the road, which overlooked Hwy 18 and the fire station but had a great view of the lake. There was an in-room jacuzzi and fireplace. Although not pristine and not a very comfortable bed, I really enjoyed staying here, and the desk attendants were always very pleasant. If you don't like traffic noise (which decreases at night), then request a room away from the street. However, I would request this room again.

Attraction | "Mountain Biking at Snow Summit"

The "Scenic Sky Chair" opens on May 8, weekends only, weather and conditions permitting. The ski lift opens daily from June 12 through September 5, is open on weekends only beginning September 4, and closes once ski season opens. For novice riders, the Bristlecone Trail, east of the base area, and Towne Trail (my favorite!!) to the west offer gentle, rolling terrain that is a perfect introduction to mountain biking. Intermediates will find slightly more challenging terrain at the top of the Scenic Sky Chair, including Skyline Drive, which rolls across the top of the ridge with great views of Big Bear Lake. A short, steep, single-track climb takes you to Grandview Point, which is a great spot to take a break and is the starting point of a thrilling downhill ride to Towne Trail and back to Snow Summit. It's a nine-mile loop and one of the most popular rides in the area. Those who are looking for more time in the saddle can stay on Skyline Drive all the way to the Champion Lodgepole Pine and then loop back to the resort, making an epic 16-miler.
