Quote: Nerja was one of the highlights of our three-week trip to Spain. The town was perfectly picturesque, with beautiful beaches, the stunning "Balcony of Europe", and a healthy but not overabundant tourist population.

Nerja is perfect for strolling. The Balcony of Europe overlooking the Mediterranean Sea at the heart of town is best in the early evening before dinner, as people of all ages are out for their evening paseo (stroll). The beaches in town can get a bit crowded; the best is Burriana, but the beaches on either side of the Balcony are acceptable. There is a healthy tourist population, but not overwhelming numbers (though July and August may be more overrun with tourists). The ice cream across from the Balcony is top-notch, and definitely worth a visit.Quick Tips: The best place to stay in town is the Hostal Marissal - right on the Balcony at a bargain price. Hostal Marissal was THE highlight of our trip, from an accommodation standpoint. The location was absolutely perfect, the staff was friendly, the room was spotless, and the price was unbeatable. I can't say enough praises about our stay. The Hostal is located right on the Balcony of Europe in the center of town, just yards from the beach. Getting to the hotel by car is a bit tricky, my suggestion is to park in the underground garage nearby. Check in is located through the cafe/restaurant.The room we had was on the second floor (the third floor to us Americans) and had a nice little balcony, though the trees blocked a true view of the Mediterranean.
