A Week in Barbados

There IS construction of a new building taking place as well as construction to beautify the landscaping. They start promptly at 8AM. It didn't bother me too much since I was up anyway with my 2 year old; however Friday was extremely loud.

We stayed in building 3 on the 4th floor. Great view!! We had a two-bedroom suite which is a combination of an A and B unit. The A unit which is larger has the private pool and faces the beach. The B unit faced the entrance and plenty of landscaping construction. Both rooms had king size beds, TV, DVD or VCR. The A side also had an additional big screen TV with DVD. The unit consisted of 3 total bath rooms, 2 bedrooms, living room, dining room, full kitchen in A, partial kitchen in B. Not to mention 2 of the bathrooms have Jacuzzi tubs, A unit also has spa shower. Pretty nice place. Has some wear and tear but what do you expect. The beach and pool chairs need to be replaced.

There is a restaurant located at the resort. We had dinner one night there (Chinese food) and it was pretty good. Lunch there was just ok. I was told Barbados was expensive. I had no idea just how expensive. Lunch for 2 was over $50 US.

FYI...Most dinner spots including the one at The Crane require men to wear slacks and a shirt. Some restaurants required shirts with collars. Needless to say not what you normally pack when visiting a tropical island so be prepared and pack extra dress clothes.

Service is very slow. If you order an appetizer they will not bring your meal until you are done. If you are hungry tell them to bring everything all together.

This resort is located on the Atlantic side of the island. White sand and blue water. The waves are strong but not too bad. Please note there are many, many, many steps you must go down in order to reach the beach. If you look closely you can see the resort is on a cliff so you have to walk down to reach the beach. It is worth it but be prepared.

Overall the accommodations were very good. We were able to take in a couple of tours, Harrison’s Cave, Mount Gay Rum and Malibu Rum. We traveled by car since this resort is not located near anything. Surprisingly Traffic is very heavy and there are few street signs that match the maps. Rush hour will drive you to drink. It is as bad as most cities. Speaking of drinking, the rum punch and other alcoholic beverages are not for light weights. Remember they make the rum on the island. One rum punch made me, as they like to say, Rum-bunctious.
