Eighteen canyons, formed by glacial melt water and stream erosion, provide the back-drop for this activity. The park is best known for its fascinating rock formations. Since it is located along the south side of the Illinois River, other sights can be seen from the bluffs themselves. There are three trail markings: brown=bluff, red=river, green=interior canyon. We asked the guide at the visitor center, and depending on the amount of time you have, he suggested the trails to take.
