Two (short) days in Nafplio

An October 2004 trip to Nafplion by ragingturnip

We rented a car in Athens and drove to Nafplio to spend a day and a half there. It was truly too short, but it was definitely worth the trip.

The beach is a bit rocky for my taste. If you go, definitely bring something cushy to lie on. The water, however, was clear and beautiful.

It was great to look back to shore and see the Palamidi (fortress). We also hiked up the 800 steps to the top (you can also drive up there). It was so much fun to wander around the nooks and crannies. There are five battalions, and we went to four of them. I think we spent about 2 hours just wandering around. The views are spectacular up there.

There are also great shops on the various streets of Nafplio. Wandering is a must. There are also some great restaurants right along the water.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

We rented a car to drive there from Athens. There is also a bus that goes, but we wanted flexibility. However, once you're in Nafplio, there's really no need for a car.

We had a large room, which conveniently had a bed and a full-size futon, so that all of us could stay in one room. The hotel was okay; not luxurious, but clean. Most importantly, Maria (the receptionist/concierge) was great.
