I liked walking along a lovely beach close to where the movie 10 with Bo Derek was filmed. A day trip to Playa La Ropa is a nice change of scenery and will allow you to meet some of the locals. I enjoyed lounging poolside at the Radisson Ixtapa; drinking Coco Locos; taking a ride on the inflated "banana," which is pulled by a speed boat; watching my drunk husband fall off the banana in deep waters off the coast; and enjoying the reasonably priced seafood lunches at La Gaviota. Quick Tips: I didn't see discount coupons anywhere. Meals at any of the resorts will be on the expensive side, but meals at many of the restaurants on Playa La Ropa were much more reasonabl...Read More

I peered out of the filthy open window of the hotel transfer bus, wondering what that oasis in the distance would really be like. Compared to the immediate surrounding shanties filled with poverty-stricken children, this resort did appear to have a sparkling appearance. Take a short taxi ride (about 20 minutes or so) or a cheap bus from your resort to Playa La Ropa. This was an activity-filled beach with just about every water sporting possibility offered. We saw wet bikes, boats, water skiing, parasailing, and THE BANANA. The banana is a yellow, heavy-gauge vinyl float of sorts. There are six to eight handles that sit on top of the float so that riders can hang on! As we walked down the beach, we were approached by the Banana rental guys and asked, Do you want to ride the banana?? It was fairly inexpensive, so we decided to take the banana for a spin. I had no idea what I was in for! The speedboat driver drives fast, and furt...Read More

We depart the airopuerto in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, in a sputtering, pollution-emitting bus that will transport us to the Radisson Ixtapa (formerly the Omni). After a longer-than-usual flight from Texas to Mexico, I am ready to relax! We chat with the other tourists on our bus about the various hotels each of us are staying at. Meanwhile, I felt sorry for the taxis behind us; having to inhale the overwhelming fumes coming from the large black clouds of smoke via the exhaust on our bus. I begin to feel more thankful that U.S. states require emissions testing. On the other hand, if we're conforming to such strict emissions, while other countries are just spewing it out with no concern ...Read More
