Restaurant

Archie Moore's is a favorite for wings. My husband and I walk from Hamden into New Haven on a ritual luncheon date, chatting as we meander through the park on our way. Waiting for us is a welcome pub with TVs on, beer ready, and a friendly wait staff.

He enjoys the buffalo wings with extra blue cheese, and who wouldn't? I enjoy the veggie burger with fries. Again, who wouldn't?

If you're looking for a place to drink a pint and have a bite, this is it - honest food at a good price, friendly and raucous at times, and always a fun time!

Restaurant

A personal favorite, Zinc is trendy, with some flavor, and a great price for what you get. Although not budget dining, you get attentive service and great food. We are on their email list, which notifies us of wine-tasting special evenings, which we take advantage of.

The tables are a little closer, in the New York-style, which is fine if you're expecting it. The bread pre-meal is a spicier fare with a sauce that can turn my tongue on fire, although my husband devours it happily. Their menu changes seasonally, with never a bad meal. We've been frequently, and have never left unsatisfied.

If you're looking for a romantic meal, or just a place for a great dinner at a reasonable price for what you get, this is the place for you. We've never had a bad experience. They validate parking. They are part of opentable.com.

Restaurant

Being a favorite place for take-out, the eat-in experience is great too. We've yet to have a bad meal here, and for the price, it's a steal of a deal! If I had one complaint, it is that they need to give more lime with the Pad Thai, but we stock up on limes in advance if we know we're ordering that.

Our favorites include: spring rolls, Thai dumplings, pad thai, wild boar basil (husband's favorite), and drunken noodles.

This is a quick bring-home meal that's reasonably priced and VERY tasty-a favorite!

Fortunately, we made reservations. When we were greeted, we were told that there was a 15-minute wait. There were many empty tables, but apparently too few staff members. Yet, we were seated when we stated we had reservations.

The atmosphere is amazing - gorgeous tabletops and the fountain outside the window was very visually appealing. The music was slightly annoying and a touch too loud, but easily overlooked.

The bread was warm, but lackluster in taste. The olive oil/cilantro cauldron was pleasing. The appetizer was a shrimp concoction on skewers, stuck in a lemon. It was tasty enough, but a fourth would have been appropriate for the price. I ordered seafood quesadillas, and they were totally mediocre. His lunch was a skirt steak, medium rare, and supposedly pretty good! It was well-seasoned, but it sat around before it was brought to the table. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were from a box.

Service was slow, but we expected that because of the understaffing at lunchtime. We declined coffee or dessert, opting to get out of there instead. The sangria wasn't bad, although fruit other than apples should also go in sangria. All in all, we won't be back soon. If you're looking for atmosphere, however, this can be the spot for you.
