Daytona , More than A Race Track

Overview

The coastal shore of Daytona Beach is the perfect beach playground. The sparkling white sand expands to 500 feet wide during low tide. The beach offers leisure and recreational activities to suit all ages. Convenient beach vending services are located at spaced intervals. The venders rent floats, umbrellas, chairs, and other needs. They also sell sunscreen, snacks and beverages. We took our grandbaby to Daytona for his first birthday in March. Spring is a very good time to visit the beach with small children; the weather is warm, but not hot. The beach is not crowded and the resorts have more time to give that extra bit of attention you may need. (pics enroute) Motor vehicles are allowed on ...Read More

The Plaza Ocean Club Resort

Hotel | "Radison Resort"

Quote:
Oceanfront resort with heated pool and on-site restaurant. Clean spacious rooms with balconies, in-room coffee, hair dryers, etc. Not the best on the beach nor the cheapest but a happy medium. We give the Radison two thumbs up.

Inlet Harbor Marina & Restaurant

Restaurant | "Inlet Harbor Mariner and Restaurant"

Quote:
This restaurant/marina has upbeat Carribean style decor with lots of color. We always ask for a table with a view of the light house when making reservations or catching the early-bird special. The food is always good, local seafood cooked to order. The jumbo shrimp, butterflied and fried a golden brown are my favorite. These people also know how to cook grits, creamy soft with just the right amount of butter. Yum-yum.

Blue Spring State Park

Attraction | "Blue Springs State Park"

Quote:
Blue Springs is the natural winter home to the Florida Manatee. During November through March, the springs are closed to all swimmers other than the manatee. The endangered manatee seek warmth and refuge from the colder St. John River in the 72 degree springs.
One of my fondest memories is of a manatee cow resting in the sun at my foot and nursing her newborn baby. The mother was about 8 feet long, the baby the size of a human infant. The mother extended her flipper to touch my foot and I reached for the baby. My husband, always cautious, snatched me from presumed harm. I still feel the proud mother was welcoming me for a closer look.

Museum of Art and Science

Attraction | "Museum of Arts and Sciences"

Quote:
This museum features multicultural art and science. The Dow Gallery of American Art showcases paintings, sculpture, furniture, crystal and silver from 1640 to 1920.
The Prehistory of Florida wing includes a near intact skeleton of a 13 foot tall, 130,000 year old Giant Ground Sloth. There is always special exhibits and interactive learning stations for children. The museum sits in a wooded area away from the traffic and noise. We sometimes picnic under the trees.

Hawaiian Luau Dinner Show at Hawaiian Inn

Attraction | "Teauila's Hawaii"

Quote:
Hawaiian Lua show featuring hula and fire dancers, also representive dances of other polynesian cultures. The all-you-can-eat luau feast includes mahi-mahi coconut newberg, roast kalua pork, pepper steak, sweet and sour chicken, assorted vegetables and desserts. Call ahead for reservations, first callers get stage side seats. 904 672-3770. The hosts and performers are warm and friendly mingling with guests before and after the show. I think the show may be a family affair, all the performers seem to be related. Teauila's has been a Daytona attraction for a long time.
