Khulna is one of the six divisions of Bangladesh. Khulna is on the river Rupsa. There is a radio station in the city. Cruising in the river Rupsa is enjoyable.

Khulna is the gateway of the Sundarbans. UNESCO declared it as world heritage. It is the largest mangrove forest of the world. It is the home of famous Royal Bengal Tigers. It spreads over 5,770 km, going west of the Posur River, ever rushing to the empty into the Bay of Bengal. Its wildlife wonders include herds of spotted deer, boars, and monkeys beside innumerable birds-flocks of migratory birds are a fairly common sight in the winter. The meandering streams that crisscross this vast mangrove forest have crocodiles, posing a challenge to the trekkers. This forest is only 50km from Khulna. Hiron Point, Kotka, Dublar Char,Mandar Baria, and Putni Island are some attractive tourist points in the Sundarbans and on the Bay of Bengal. To get to the Sundarbans, one will have to come Mongla first.

Mongla is one of the two seaports of Bangladesh. It is 40km from Khulna city. It is on the river Posur. Visiting Mongla is exciting. Extensive green fields touch the horizon here. There are many kinds and types of boats plying on the Posur. The fresh air and fresh fish of Mongla are mentionable. The Banishanta brothel is on the other side of the Posur.

The Khan Jahan Alir Mazar and Sixty Dome Mosque of Bagerhat are also attractive for tourists. Khan Jahan Alir Mazar means the shyrine of Khan Jahan Ali,who was the great Muslim saint of the Middle Ages. In the shrine there is a big dighi(lake). Two crocodiles, namely Kala Pahar and Dhola Pahar, have lived in the dighi since the ages of Khan Jahan Ali. The name of the dighi is Khanjeli Dighi . Many devotees from home and abroad come here to fulfill their wishes.

The 60-dome mosque is only 60km from Bagerhat and 35km from Khulna. The construction of the mosque was finished in 1459. It is 180 feet long, 108 feet wide, and 22 feet high. It is made of red bricks and decorated with flora paintings. Every year many tourists come to visit the mosque.

Quick Tips:

Beware of fierce animals when you are in the Sundarbans. Do not go to the deep forest alone. Do not go to bathe when the sea rescinds. There are no hotels in Mongla or the Sundarbans, but there are rest houses in the Sundarbans. If you go on your own, get permission from the Divisional Forest Office in Khulna to live in those rest houses. If you go with any tour operator, they will arrange everything.

Best Way To Get Around:

Khulna is easily accessible from the capital city of Dhaka. To get from Dhaka to Jessore, one can go by air, and then from Jessore to Khulna, you can travel by road. There are many types of buses/coaches from Dhaka to Khulna. It is also possible to go by steamer/launches from Sadarghat in Dhaka.
