Warm your bones in Palm Springs

A September 2004 trip to Palm Springs by Ashante

Palm Springs and vicinity is one of the nicest vacations I have ever taken. Not a cloud in the sky, just tall palms and nice dry heat for the bones. Absolutely super location!

Mount Jacinta shows many scenic faces from dry and rocky to northern California forest all in one drive. The shopping in both Palm Springs (older) and Palm Desert (newer) was terrific. Friendly faces wherever you go.

The windmill farm in the desert pass is also a nice modern touch to the area. 29 Palms natural Oasis allows just outside town allows one to "walk over" the San Andreas Fault while exploring an old desert outpost - very Western indeed!

Quick Tips:

Fly in to Ontario, California rather than LAX. It is much closer and not as congested!

Best Way To Get Around:

A bus route does exist, but an air-conditioned car is really required to drive around the vicinity.

Best Things Nearby:
Close to established Palm Springs centre. Mountain view, groceries, restaurants, deli/liquor shops nearby.

Best Things About the Resort:
All villas are a few short feet from the pool/sunbathing areas. Nicely private. Very nice job in retrofitting from an old traditional motel. The units are nicely outfitted and cozy. Our had a fireplace (although it was not cold enough at night to use). Overall, this resort's grounds are very nicely maintained and the staff are very efficient in allowing the guest to feel unbothered and relaxed. I did not see any families at the resort, probably due to the fact that there are no multiple bedroom units. One bedroom with pullout couch I belive is the largest accommodation available.

Resort Experience:
Quiet, Scenic, Friendly, Peaceful! The units are not as large as some I have stayed at yet are efficient in the use of space. Everything you require is here and nicely placed.

  • Unit Type: 1 Bedroom
  • Activities: Fair
  • Amenities: Very Good
  • Unit Satisfaction: Very Good
  • Family Friendliness: Not Available

Restaurant

Very extensive menu of both Mexican and Southwestern dishes. Friendly attentive staff and very nice dish presentation makes the Blue Coyote stand above many other local establishments. The outdoor eating area is nicely decorated and makes one feel like they are eating in a small Mexican village. The food is tasty as the chefs use many techniques to coax out flavour, such as marinating chicken in Tequila, etc. The portions are fair and the prices are not expensive for the area. I will hopefully return soon to try different items from the menu!
