Relaxing Week in St. Thomas, USVI

A September 2004 trip to St. Thomas by CLEdwards

My sister and I spent a very relaxing week in the Virgin Islands. We stayed in St. Thomas right on the beach and took daytrips to St. John and Tortola, BVI.

Hotel | "Best Western Emerald Beach Resort"

The rooms were modest and fairly clean, although mold could be seen throughout the room. The air conditioning didn't work as well as it should, but stay here for the beach - it's incredible. Right across from the airport on Lindberg Bay, it is fairly quiet and a beach that was recommended by locals. Scuba diving is available at the hotel.

Restaurant | "Green House Restaurant"

We ate lunch at the Green House, but wished we had time to have come back for Happy Hour. The food was fast and good. It's right on the waterfront, so get a table where you can view the bay. At night, it looks like this is the place to party.

PalmsBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "The Palms"

The Palms is located at Best Western Emerald Beach. The food is overpriced and is average. The West Indies buffet on Friday nights costs $27.50 and IS NOT WORTH IT. As an alternative, order the hamburgers off the lunch menu and sit outside at the bar on the water's edge.

Sun Dog CafeBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This is an outdoor cafe in a shopping area. The food is EXCELLENT. I had jerk chicken quesadillas, which were incredible. The Trinidad Charlie's West Indian Pumpkin Pepper Sauce (on the tables) was so good that I made sure to find a bottle before leaving the island.

Attraction

This beach is an awesome place to rest and unwind. There are no motor sports, only sun bathers and swimmers. It is BEAUTIFUL and serene.

Main Street ShoppingBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Shopping"

Main Street is the place to shop in Charlotte Amalie. From Cardow's to Royal Caribbean to a little, mom-and-pop jewelry store, every merchant wants YOU to go into THEIR store, and they're willing to give you a deal. SHOP AROUND before you buy - you can often find a better deal if you compare stores, but, overall, this is the place to buy.

Main Street Shopping
Charlotte Amalie St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

$15 per adult, $7.50 per child, kids under 5 are free.

Ride the tram up the mountain for an incredible view of Charlotte Amalie. There are shops, a wedding chapel, and a bar at the top - try the Bushwacker! But beware - there are only a handful of shops, so all in all, $15 per person is kind of expensive for what you get.
