My husband and I went to Aruba for our honeymoon. (We are a gay couple who got legally married in Massachusetts, USA on 9/18/04.) It was one of the best vacations we ever had. Email me for more detailed info and more pics.

The best thing to do is rent a hut in the first row and enjoy the gorgeous ocean and beach - the last beach on this strip is truly something to enjoy. The water is warm all day long, from early morning to dusk.

The pool at this hotel is also fabulous with a bar, waterfall, and various knooks that you and your significant other can hide out in, and it is no deeper than 5 feet anywhere.

Quick Tips:

Ask the concierge at the hotel for all reservations and things to do, as he is very honest and eager to help you out with anything you may want to do. Email me for more detailed questions or more pics than I can put here.

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around the island is by taxi or bus. Taxis are pretty cheap, charge flat rates, and are easily available at most major resorts, but buses are even cheaper if you are willing to wait around for them.

ocean view room
The room was huge with double sinks and a big balcony with a gorgeous ocean view (you have to ask for an ocean-view room).

There was maid service twice a day, and they give you lots of towels, which you will need from going back and forth between the beach and the pool.

There are eight floors in the resort - we stayed on the seventh floor and the view was fantastic. We spoke to another couple who stayed on the ground level and they liked their room and view as well.

The room is very large in size and ours had a king-size bed, a desk, and a couch - very similar to a suite except it was one large room. The bathroom shower was not the greatest and water tended to flow to the floor outside the bathtub because the shower curtain was too short.

Brisas del MarBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Great place to be at sunset, especially on the terrace.

The food was excellent, but the location is pretty remote, especially from the high-rise area where we stayed.

The cost for the taxi to the restaurant from our resort was $30 each way, including tip. We thought it was great but not necessarily worth the cost.

Champions Sports BarBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Champions"

Sports pub with a lively atmosphere and reasonable prices compared to other places.

We went there on the nights the Red Sox played the Yankees, and it was a good mix of fans.

The food is not bad for sports-bar fare and the drinks are good, although we don't recommend getting martinis, manhattans, etc. This is not that type of place!

Fantastic place - very romantic setting!

The food was incredible - we both got the lobster and filet mignon special and it was heavenly! The drinks are great - really good manhattans and martinis.

Service was good, not too fast and not too slow either.

There is a waterfall in the middle of the restaurant - ask for a seat near there.

This place is right on the beach between the Marriott and the Holiday Inn. Very romantic setting - ask to be seated on the beach.

The food is good, but the service was a bit slow, if courteous. Prices were good - less than other restaurants - and the bar is nice with good music.

Good little place across from the Hyatt. They specialize in tapas and have about 30 or so that you can choose from. The food is cooked well and the service is good - very friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.

Amazonia ChurrascariaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Amazonia Churrasquerria"

Great place for this type of food - a churrasquerria is the type of restaurant that offers you a salad bar with all sorts of stuff like mushrooms, bruschetta, cheeses, etc., and places a card on your table.

In this restaurant, you flip the card over when you are ready to eat and servers come around with spears of meat, like filet mignon, pork, sausage, etc., freshly cooked and braised.

Excellent place if you are hungry, and a good bargain too.

Huts are available for $15 a day if you reserve in advance (highly recommended and worth the money), otherwise, you have to get up very early each day and wait in line for a free hut that may be in the back row. We reserved our huts a month in advance and got the front row, which is the best row to go back and forth to the water from.
