Yosemite National Park

Overview

Quote:
Hiking from the valley to Glacier Point, photography in the valley in September and October for the turning of the leaves, standing under the spray of the falls on the mist trail. Quick Tips: You must get out of the valley on the road between Yosemite Valley and Mono Lake. I had been going to Yosemite Valley for years and it wasn't until last year that I took the trip to Mono Lake. A whole new world was opened up. I was shocked at how beautiful this area was. It is unlike anywhere I have ever been, except the Yosemite Valley. Huge granite mountains and crystal clear lakes abound. I have hiked the Tahoe Desolation Wilderness and Sequouia National Park, but this was something totally different...Read More

Private and clean. Nothing fancy, but certainly comfortable. We moved in here after staying in a tent cabin in Curry Village. We paid more but got heating, nice beds, a shower, and a private bath.

Cabin in the woods, high-up canvas. Beds were comfortable, but noise and mattresses were encased in plastic. Very good for budget travelers, but cabins right on top of each other with little privacy. Lighting in the cabins reflects your shadow on the walls. You can hear the people next door talking. But, if you are dead tired, like the smell of the woods, and don't mind the noises, an excellent place to stay. Four single beds per room, and maybe one double.

This place is great. Very inexpensive. Buffet-type breakfast, cafeteria style. A great bang for your buck in a beatiful setting. In and out quickly so you can hit the trails.

Go early in the day to beat the crowds.

Beautiful when the falls are performing at their greatest (spring).

Steep, paved trail. Approximately 500 granite steps to the top of Vernal falls. A wonderful, awesome hike. Continue on to Nevada Falls

Mist Trail and Vernal Falls

Quote:
This is a strenuous hike about 7 miles long (includes Vernal Falls hike). It will take about 5 to 6 hours.

It is a great place to take in the miracle of nature.

The steps are slippery and wet, but there is a cable to hold on to. Not for the out-of-shape person, but if you are in good shape and have a good fitting, you will be ok.

Glacier Point Trail Hike

Attraction | "Glacier Point and Panoramic Trail"

Quote:
Start at the 4-mile Glacier Point hike, which brings you straight up (via swtichbacks) to Glacier Point. It is a strenuous climb, but the views are unparalleled.

Continue on the Panorama trail, again beautiful views, heading down the Mist Trail to Happy Isles.

Bring a lunch.

This is the most demanding hike I have done in the park. It is a wonderful and exhilarating experience. If you have the will, desire, and athletic body, don't miss it.
