A West Palm Get Away

A November 2000 trip to West Palm Beach by Constance

West Palm Beach is quieter than Miami or Ft. Lauderdale and provides a more relaxed experience. Unfortunately, it's also comes with a bit of a snobbish attitude.

The beaches of West Palm are wonderful but not many of them are public. Most are owned by private estates and totally off limits. Check out the beach on Ocean Blvd. between Southerb Blvd. and Lake Ave casuseway. It's a beautiful public beach and has picnic areas, parking, lifeguards and best of all restrooms.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

A car is the best way to get around town. You can be on your own time and not depend on taxis.

The Colony provides a beautiful escape from the more touristy areas of West Palm. The British Colonial style brings an intimate feeling to your stay. Check out the Florida shaped pool and have a snack at the Tiki Bar outside. They even have a bar complete with T.V. in case you're traveling with a sports enthusiast. Venture out from the hotel and take a walk down Worth Avenue. The shopping is expensive but first class!

Palm Beach has so much to offer. The concierge at the hotel can help you set up tee times or schedule a deep sea fishing trip, diving adventure or court time for tennis. Palm Beach has a great jogging and bicycling path to work off all those extra vacation pounds. Try the Palm Beach Bicycle Shop at 223 Sunrise Avenue - 561-659-4583 for reasonable prices. The afternoon heat can be intense so get up early for your work out and spend the day staying cool at the pool or shopping!
