An August 2003 trip
to Brazil by MontanaTraveler
Quote: An amazing journey to the Bahia coast can be a life-changing experience.
Itacare, a surfing town a day's drive north of Trancoso, is even better. More of a laid back surfer vibe, and not as upscale though development is encroaching on this special place. I spent two weeks here and never wanted to leave! Great nightlife, incredible food, killer beaches and most of all --unbelieveable surfing within walking distance to town.
Another cool town is Arriel A'djuda; very artsy, located between Trancoso and Itacare.

In Itacare, we stayed in a more traditional pousada with one bed and one bathroom. It was called Pousade Belfort and owned by one of the better-known local surfers. It had a pool and a great Brazilian breakfast every morning.

Many nice beach breaks, 3 to 9 feet, with some bigger swells. Best spots are hidden and a short bus ride from town. Check out South to South surf shop or any one of the spots on or just off of the main drag for rentals/information.
