Best Things Nearby:
Your choice of grocery stores, restaurants, shops, and most of all the beach.

Best Things About the Resort:
The clean, comfortable well-stocked unit with its view of the ocean and beach. Also provision of Internet access along with a printer and fax machine.

Resort Experience:
We go to Myrtle Beach each year for the South Atlantic Well Drillers Convention and have had no trouble getting an exchange when we put in our exchange request two years ahead of time. This year RCI found us an exchange at the Maritime Beach Club, unit 609. On entering the unit I was struck with how bright and clean it was. The floors were beige tile, most of the walls white and there were bright green, blue and pink accents giving it a bit of a tropical flavor. The kitchen cupboards were well stocked with a range of different dishes, glasses and silverware for 6. The entertainment unit had a small closet next to the TV but there was no DVD or VCR for movies on a rainy day.

One wall of the living room was all glass overlooking the ocean. Air conditioning units in the bedroom and living room were good allowing adjustment so it wasn’t too cold or too hot. It was a delightful place to stay in spite of its coziness.

Housekeeping came and cleaned all the units on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s unless you asked them not to. If you have trash to empty you have to go to the huge, smelly dumpsters at the side of the building. I would have liked to have had a little more pleasant arrangement for doing that.

In a room on the first floor was a PC with Internet access so I was able to keep up on my email. There was also a printer and fax machine. The first ten minutes on the Internet were free and then it was ten cents a minute after that. Read the material they give you at check-in. There are a number of fines, like hanging your towel on the balcony railing, which you will want to be sure to avoid. They will not call and tell you if you have broken any of these rules.

It was wonderful just taking the short trip down the elevator and then out onto the beach. On our last day there we rented an umbrella and two chairs from the lifeguard for $25. We got to enjoy a little excitement when a couple of sharks came in close. The lifeguard had been on the alert and gotten everyone out of the water before there was a problem. I learned that when fish start jumping up out of the water that indicates a shark in the vicinity.

In the area there were little shops of interest and different kinds of places to eat there as down at Myrtle Beach. They had a Bi-Lo, Kroger and Food Lion just down the street to pick up those items that were overlooked when packing. We found though that Barefoot Landing did not have as much to offer as Broadway at the Beach so we made the trip down to Broadway one afternoon to enjoy all the shops, IMAX, and the movie theatre there.

Carolina OpryBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "The Carolina Opry"

My husband’s company gave him two tickets to the Opry. I am not a music person and he is. They had a comic as part of the show doing different skits and I did enjoy that part. I was unfamiliar with most of the songs and sometimes they would only play music losing me completely. My husband immensely enjoyed the whole presentation. The very best part for me was the patriotic grand finale at the end. First they asked every one in the audience that has been in the military and fought for this country or that is presently in the military to stand up. They then thanked them for what they have done and are now doing and then stated that the last two songs were dedicated to those who are over in Afghanistan and Iraq (where my daughter is) and to those that have made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our country and us. For me it was a very unexpected and moving tribute.
