Zanzibar turned out to be just one more tropical island with lovely beaches and beautifull coral reefs!

Stone Town is a must! But don't forget to take a city map with you, well, even with a map you will get lost in those narrow streets!

I visited al the small remains of the cultural past of Zanzibar on my own (slave cave, some palaces and Persian baths). It's very cheap, and it only takes half a day!

Quick Tips:

Don't do one of those stupid spice tours! Stay clear of the all-inclusive hotels, they are packed with arrogant Italians!

Best Way To Get Around:

Arrange a taxi yourself (not by the hotel) and just go where you want to go. It's cheap, easy, fast and you can do you just what you want to do!!!

Nothing special, but compared with the same kind of hotels in the same price range, the service is better in Europe or the Carribean. And the hotel was crowded with Italians!!!

Fantastic! All kinds of food prepared in the open air! You have to visit this market after or during sunset, even if you don't dare to eat anything, it'll be still worth the experience!

Attraction

Dolphin
If you want to dive, go to Egypt: Much cheaper and a lot more to see. Apparantly diving would also be very good on the neighbouring island of Pemba.

All dives are on Mnemba Atol. Not many choice in dive sites. Bad visibility (6-7 meters when I was there) A lot of sand and dead coral. But a great diversity of big fish and turtles. (I've seen dolphins during three dives, turtles, groupers, stone fish, scorpion fish, crocodile fish, leaf fish, ...)

About the dive center: not really professional. One of my buddies almost drowned, not because of the dive center, but they didn't even have oxygen on board to prevent decompression illness and the closest recompression chamber is in Kenia!!!

Attraction

Sandbank
You start with a bus trip to the south of the island, where you will be picked up by little boats that take you to a sandbank (I don't know the word in English, sorry, a little Island of sand in the middle of the sea, look at the picture!) There you can go to lay down in the sun or follow the guide on a snorkeling tour (the guide really knows where to look for the fish!)

After that, everyone gets a coconut and drinks on that beach. Than you leave for another island, only 10 minutes away, and during this trip you will likely see dolphins. On this, bigger island you will get dinner. Mainly seafood (you can eat as manny lobster as you like) and for desert you can taste 15 different fruits that are grown in Zanzibar, with a little explanation. Mmmm!!! :-)

After dinner, and a little rest, everyone can take a hike on a dhow (traditional boat), little bit of adventure! And when everyone is back you go visit some baobab tree's. (one of them has fallen down and you can climb onto it and inside it to take some pictures. Then it's time to go snorkeling again, but this time in the mangrove forest in a beautifull lagoon!!!

You just have to do this tour!!!!!
