After Liverpool, we took the boat to Dublin. From there, we hit some spots in the countryside for a day, then spent a long day in Dublin.

Pubs, pubs, pubs!! Also, the holy ground called Tara, the Anglo-Norman castle in the village of Trim, and or course, Dublin- seeing the holy Book of Kells at Trinity College, the Guiness Brewery, and the great party district called Temple Bar.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

The buses are great, and walking around Dublin is definitely suggested.
There are several nice B and B's in the village of Swords, near the Dublin Airport. This is very convenient if you are flying out - as I did back to London. There is a cool castle in the village, and the B and B''s are nearby. Castlespring is run by a nice lady named Cepta Morton. She is very helpful with tourist info, and prepares a wonderful breakfast.

This is a great pub! The food and beer was great, and this incredible band played traditional Irish music for hours! I even bought a CD of several of the bands that play here.

Attraction

The holy Book of Kells is a 1200 year old bok depicting the Gospels. It is hand drawn and written and the colors are amazing. This is a must-see in Dublin. Right downtown, near the River Liffey.

Guide at Guinness
Now you have to go to this place if you visit Dublin. It is a pretty good walk from downtown, but along the way you see beautiful historic churches and buildings. When you get there, buy your ticket, and peruse the old equipment, and especially the old ads for the beer. After you walk around, go down to the serving area where you get a free pint of the best beer you will ever drink in your life.

Tara View
Tara is a holy spot, first settled by the Druids hundreds of years BC. On this site are burial mounds and earthworks. All of the dead were cremated and placed in these mounds, except for one body that has been identified as a 15 year old Egyptian. Makes you wonder. Also, there is an old church at the site and a statue of St. Patrick. In 327 AD or so, he came here to establish the Catholic Church in the area.

Attraction

Trim Castle
The castle is the oldest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland, dating 800 years. It is pretty huge, and in good condition. Definitely worth the trip through the beautiful countryside to get there - about 25 miles north of Dublin.
